Can someone explain to a novice why this hurricane isn't expected to continue on its current path and hit SW Texas and why they expect it to turn from a NW movement to a NE movement?
There is a cool front coming through the Midwest right now and it will push Delta North East tomorrow. Should see a sue north movement by tonight

I'll let the NHC do that
quote:
During the next 12-24 h,
Delta should turn to the north between a mid- to upper-level ridge
over the Florida Peninsula and eastern Gulf of Mexico and a mid- to
upper-level level trough over the U.S. Southern Plains. This should
be followed by a north-northeastward motion that is expected to
bring the center near or over the northern Gulf coast, most likely
in southwestern Louisiana, in about 30 h. After landfall, the
cyclone should move northeastward through the Lower Mississippi and
Tennessee Valleys along the southern edge of the mid-latitude
westerlies until it dissipates. The track guidance remains very
tightly clustered in terms of direction, and the new forecast track
is near the various consensus models.

Short answer? It’s getting funneled between two pressure systems (that people here call troughs and ridges, etc) one is basically over Texas and the other is in the north east gulf. Those systems are guiding it. For the long answer, a video from a guy named “Levi” will be posted in an hour or so with a graphical explanation.

Kiewit just filled up all the RV parks in Cameron with brand new RVs. I wonder if they were able to get them out this time?

People ask all the time, if the science / understanding has gotten any better.
I feel that storm surge is an area where they are getting better. They seem to have learned over time, that both spatial size of storm, and intensity, impact storm surge. That wasn't always the case.

The
storm surge risk remains high despite the forecast decrease in intensity before landfall since Delta is expected to grow in size

If only you could read and understand English you could possibly look back in the thread and find everything you need to know.

Delta has reintensified into a major, Category 3, hurricane with maximum sustained winds of 115 mph.
Delta is the 6th major hurricane in the Gulf of Mexico during October in the satellite era (since 1966).
Other 5 major hurricanes in the satellite era (since 1966) in the Gulf of Mexico during October are: Inez (1966), Opal (1995), Lili (2002), Wilma (2005) and Michael (2018).

Judging by my downvotes, a lot in the Jennings to Lafayette crowd are not wanting to make the same sacrifice lol.
We're in Abbeville, actually a little south of town and while I'd prefer to not be decimated, I mean, it is what it is and you hoping for a turn or my saying "whatever" won't make it be. What will be will be.

Well boys time for me to get off a while.
I got the generator oil changed,, air filter changed, and got that bitch ready to go and tested.
Time to sit back and drink some beer, eat some gumbo and take a break from TD a while.
I'll come back and troll a while before the 10 pm update.
Stay safe

Current landfall was in every cone issued and within the 5 day error.
Well the cone was all of Louisiana to Destin. Hitting that is like hitting water falling out of a boat.
