TWC graphic of model wind forecast says the storm is barely a cat 1 at landfall

Every time they show that during hurricanes I question it.

Saw this on another site. It's a great graphic for wind speed percentage chances.

I assume the figures in the blue show gust velocity, the figures in yellow are sustained wind speed but what do the numbers in the red represent?

This has already been discussed in this thread, but in terms of the storm Nola did in fact get lucky. Most issues were due to human error

Storm weakened and took a very late jog east of the city

If nola got what Mississippi did (Eastern side of storm), it would have been infinitely worse for the city

Little. Only reason why the Lake Charles area got helped for Rita is because it got lumped in with The Katrina disaster relief Bill.

Currently its between the Brazos and the atchafalaya, give or take a couple hunnerd miles
.
Thanks I know that. Landfall right?

I’m real familiar with the NHC site and the cones and stuff.

What I’m looking for is a real time distance, bearing and heading from a river or port. I can draw a mental picture better that way. Instead of looking at a graphic icon that gives an estimated time.

It’s the old way.

But this storm isnt what Laura was. It would be significantly less damage to a baton rouge area than going to LC again where most are still dealing with roof damage. Another storm is going to cause twice the amount of damage here than it would a city that hasnt been hit so no its not logical to say that. Its basically saying it better that itll rip of the existing damaged roofs and finish off those peoples houses than take a few of my shingles off mine.

sorry...I'm having a hard time reading this. Is the graphic showing estimated wind speed in that cone area when the storm's eye reaches that spot on the dotted line (ex Friday 7AM the red square is closer to the larger white lettered Thu 8PM) or the curved line (white lettered Fri 8AM right off the coast?

Trying to determine safe driving conditions tomorrow morning around 6-7AM. Not going far, just up I-49 to Carencro from Youngsville.

Based on that graphic, what's the weather going to be like tomorrow morning early, say 7AM in the Lafayette area? Sorry of this is a dumb question... Appreciate the info!

Few locales have ever had to go through two hurricanes I’d less than two months

Plenty of people along the coastal low lying areas took it on the chin for Katrina, Rita and Wilma.

are you kidding me?

katrina damage- 161 billion

rita-8 billion
ike- 35 billion
laura-8-12 billion

katrina was 3x more destructive than all of your storms combined

You sound like someone in Boston trying to compare the marathon bombing to 9/11

The typical New Orleans area attitude. Can’t stand it. One of the things I don’t miss about living back home in Louisiana.. New Orleans and their woa is me bs.

the black line with Fri 8 AM would be where they expect tropical storm winds to reach. so 7 am in lafayette shouldn't be horrible.

Redneck was probably in 4th grade when Katrina hit. Don’t be too hard on him. He doesn’t remember

So hit an area where many of the homes are not structurally sound and there’s debris everywhere to turn into lethal projectiles instead of losing a few shingles? Gotcha.

Just because you can conceive of even worse circumstances doesn’t mean they got lucky.
