It's catching more shear than models expected yesterday and that's why it didn't just rocket off this afternoon.

Hey rds, what does this mean:
Good news for people, bad news for Delta.

This thing could turn due South and New Orleans would still be in bad shape.
Obviously you won't hear any arguments from me, we just don't need a hurricane to add to it.

It looks like this bitch is just blasting that other little storm out the way. This is nuts.

Looking like Mr Sanchos is about to get his donkey nailed.

while I'm neither rds nor Duke... it essentially means the midlevel shear is a little stronger than was previously thought
and while that shear hasn't really impacted the storm's intensity... it has impacted its shape... like why the eyewall isn't completely circular and closed off and 1 of the reasons why we still can't see a visible eye even though it's a Cat 4 hurricane

I'm thinking I need to pack my "important things". PHotos, baby quilts made by their grandmothers, that kind of thing that can't be replaced. Not worried about water unless it's from a roof that is gone.

econ first pass not as impressive in the wind but it looks like it killed off that little eye structure from earlier. Pressure probably 961 mb.
To be expected given the degradation in sat presentation this afternoon. In addition to shear, like you noted, there has been some restructuring of the core. This will be the 1st of many structural changes over the next couple of days that will result in a huge expansion of the wind field.

I really think we’ll know more in the coming days and wouldn’t be surprised to see the models move one way or the other before landfall somewhere on the Gulf Coast. /s
Posted on 10/6/20 at 7:39 pm to rds dc
Rds are you saying that a storm that still has to go over land and hasn’t even entered the GOM is hard to predict?
Crazy
But apparently there are 3 other posters here that seem to know more than you and the NHC

Well, that sucks for me although I don't want Lake Charles to get hit again either.
