while I'm neither rds nor Duke... it essentially means the midlevel shear is a little stronger than was previously thought

It’s double what the model predicted.

quote:

and while that shear hasn't really impacted the storm's intensity... it has impacted its shape... like why the eyewall isn't completely circular and closed off and 1 of the reasons why we still can't see a visible eye even though it's a Cat 4 hurricane

You obviously know a lot more about these things than I do, but couldn’t this shear be preventing the storm becoming even stronger? I get that it isn’t weakening it, but it seems like this shear is one of the things preventing this from exceeding theoretical limits.

I actually agree

Once we get more information we’ll know more

Wow, that is going out on a limb, thanks for the insight

I feel like a well reasoned wait and see approach is more useful for most people than going out on a limb for some bold predictions.

Seriously. I want to punch every person in here cheering (or trying to reverse jinx) Nola being clear. Do we not remember the Eastward jog Sally did before wrecking shite in AL/FL?

Hence why my post says:

Could change but I doubt we see any East shifts unless something big changes.

Y’all need to chill the frick out. Just let people talk if they want to. Sometimes you have to say your opinion and just get it off your chest. Read Duke and rds’ posts exclusively if you don’t want to read bullshite.

Or go to storm2k

ETA: my gf is in FL and just experienced a bit of Sally and my family in LC got nailed by Laura. It’s been a nerve wrecking season. Stop getting bent out of shape when people whose nerves are terrible vent whatever is on their mind.

I figured you were purposely trolling and that got missed that on the Bingo card

There was a storm a season or two ago that people were convinced it would never turn b/c it was going too fast.

I'm thinking I need to pack my "important things". PHotos, baby quilts made by their grandmothers, that kind of thing that can't be replaced. Not worried about water unless it's from a roof that is gone.

As trivial as it seems, everything else can be replaced. Trophy mounts, grandparents china, photos, journals can’t. Make every effort to save them.

when I think shear impacting a storm... I think what happened to Marco... how it just got ripped and torn apart... not just stopping the rapid intensification of a cat 4 freak of a storm

this shear didn't stop Delta from becoming a major hurricane... but yes it could be preventing it from becoming a cat 5

Wouldn’t call it an eastern shift, more or less a consolidation of track

It was an eastern shift and a tigher consolidation of the models. The NHC is even outside of the consensus now.

don't use that figure for uncertainty purposes (which is why Levi put that top right hand caption on it).
