I would imagine dumping what is highly flammable jet fuel, anywhere on land, is a bad idea.
But I guess they can't dump it in the ocean, because a whale might drink it or something. Can't have that.

The FAA said in a statement that "Delta Air Lines Flight 89 declared an emergency after departing from LAX, returned to the airport and landed without incident. The FAA is aware of and looking into reports that children at a school east of LAX are being treated for fuel exposure."

Maybe one of the OT pilots can chime in as to why an aircraft would need to perform a fuel dump in an emergency situation?

Why the frick is an airplane “dumping fuel”?!? Go frick yourselves, air industry. And wonder why the price of a plane ticket has gone up exponentially... it’s because apparently they’re throwing away the fricking fuel we as customers are paying for.
fricking dumb.
fricking dumb.

Less weight and less fire risk I'd guess.
Usually they are high enough it just evaporates. Must have been pretty low and slow.

Do we really need an expert to explain that?

Well the OT just found who is clueless about the aviation industry and it didn't take long at all.

You can’t possibly be this stupid. They declared an Emergency and were returning to make an emergency landing. Do you think it is better or worse to make that landing with hundreds / thousands of pounds of highly flammable fuel on board?

Jesus Christ some of you people are idiots.
You dump fuel so a rough landing doesn’t turn into a bomb and kill everyone aboard.

Why dump fuel? Because he’s too heavy to land with a full fuel load and he needs to get back in the ground ASAP.

I'm sure they realized that none of the kids should have been smoking so the chances of an explosion were minimized.
