What were the deepfakes doing? Were they doing something sexual? Was it something bad? Or was this just one of them making a joke?

Either way consent is needed. But I can't really join the pitchfork mob without knowing what is going on here.

The guy paid for deepfake porn videos where the female streamers' faces were superimposed into the porn.

EDIT: He didn't actually buy videos of the streamers specifically. He was a paying member of a website that specializes in deepfake porn, some of which included some of his fellow streamers. I guess the difference matters.

I think the issue is that you were limited by your own thoughts. Now you get to see the thoughts of everyone manifested on the screen.

There are some really fricked up people out there. I wouldn't want my wife or kids to be depicted in some sick motherfricker's fantasy come to virtual life.

Ok, people can still create and share these things without profiting from it.

Maybe you wouldn't literally cry but I believe you would be pretty mad and have something to say about it if it had any impact on your career or public image.

I'm torn on this. Part of me doesn't think it's a huge deal, and part of me completely gets why they'd be offended (although equating it to being physically raped/assaulted is a stretch IMO).

But either way, like someone said this is something that will become a thing VERY soon. There will be pics and videos out there of all kinds of people doing shite that is faked and they didn't really do. And it will be indistinguishable from reality. I can definitely see how that could easily become a big problem.

Jesus this board really has turned into boomerville.

TRANSLATION: A guy who makes videos and publishes them online was caught purchasing fake nude/sex videos and/or photos of two of his friends (girls) who also post videos online. All three have a relatively large following. One of the girls was outraged/devastated over it. The guy is getting blasted over it as if he committed a reprehensible crime. My question is whether the amount outrage is rational/proportional to the situation.

It's here now actually, and it's not just video. AI is good enough now that audio deepfakes can be made as well. Imagine being accused of saying something, being "on tape" saying it, but it's a deepfake and not actually you saying it.

They're trying to build a prison,

Following the rights movements
You clamped on with your iron fists,
Drugs became conveniently
Available for all the kids,
Following the rights movements

Available for all the kids,

I buy my crack, my smack, my b****,
Right here in Hollywood,

Nearly 2 million Americans are incarcerated
In the prison system,
Prison system of the U.S.

They're trying to build a prison,
Another prison system.

Minor drug offenders fill your prisons
You don't even flinch
All our taxes paying for your wars
Against the new non-rich,

The percentage of Americans in the prison system
Prison system, has doubled since 1985,

They're trying to build a prison,
Another prison system. (for you and me to live in)

They're trying to build a prison,
For you and me,

All research and successful drug policy show
That treatment should be increased,
And law enforcement decreased,
While abolishing mandatory minimum sentences.

Utilizing drugs to pay for secret wars around the world,
Drugs are now your global policy,
Now you police the globe,

I buy my crack, my smack, my b****,
Right here in Hollywood,

Drug money is used to rig elections,
And train brutal corporate sponsored
Dictators around the world.

They're trying to build a prison,
For you and me

By the time something like that happened to me it would be happening to a ton of people and it wouldn’t be a “big deal” anymore.

These internet “celebrities” are just on the cutting edge of this. Their attractiveness and popularity has allowed them a great and profitable life, but they have put themselves in the cross hairs for this type of activity. To me it’s like “yeah, that sucks, but it sort of comes with the territory now.” Fake celeb nudes have been around forever, it’s just that the technology has gotten much better.

Right. The implications of it are fairly scary. We think politics are stupid now, just wait until there are fake DWI videos out there of opponents. Or shite, fake murder/pedo videos of your opponents. All it takes is something like that coming out and enough people will buy into it and believe it. The resulting story of it being not real won't even matter.

And the flip side is true too. shite, the White House can simply come out and say that all those Hunter videos were AI deepfakes.
