When you see the average ages of new cases, this isn't surprising.
ETA: Plus back at the start only people that were sick were getting tested.

That’s a great chart. I’m really starting to question the validity of the recent spike. Especially when most cases are asymptomatic and deaths (as you indicated) have been declining.

Most of the new cases are young people in their 20's and 30's. Now that there's enough tests to go around for anybody who wants to take one and not just reserved for older folks and people exhibiting symptoms, the mortality rate on those graphs are going to be a lot lower.

My gut tells me the declining mortality rate is a result of our medical professionals now knowing better how to treat and prevent many of the worst cases from developing.
That includes using Remdesivir to treat the worst cases. That drug was approved by the FDA to treat the most severe cases of COVID-19 on May 1, 2020.

That'd be true if hospitalizations were going up as well, but cases are rising, yet both deaths and hospitalizations are down. That can only mean people are getting less sick from the virus, and probably aren't really being treated at all

This and the number of tests (catching asymptotic cases), is going to lead to a dramatic decrease in the death rate, IMO.

LOl notice the divergence of the trend lines? Deaths are not going to move much even with the case climb. The case count climb is because we are testing so many more people. If you look at the spread on the initial climb the case/death climb matched with about a week or so lag. Cases started climbing two weeks ago and deaths are still heading down.
What has happened is many of the new positive cases are people who are asymptomatic being tested and discovering they are positive. What ever data you pulled this from see if there is a total number of tests administered data set and give it a look. Also look at the positive results per test ratio and the deaths per positive reading ratio. You will sleep better.
