Daughter is starting her first semester at NP school in August at LSU. What sort of salaries are people getting as NPs in South Louisiana these days?

Curious of starting and career progression?

My wife makes $68/hr at urgent care in Houston, 3 years of experience. 1099 or W2 no benefits.

Depends on the professional skill and organizational position of the doctor whose marriage they inevitably ruin

Wife make $82/hr, plus 1.5 hrs OT, double time on holidays. We live in a major city with high COL, however.

Geographic location makes a difference.

Salaries vary across the board for NPs. The national average is currently hovering at around $115k-$120k

The truth is that the NP field is becoming super saturated. NP mills are pumping out NPs left and right who’ve never even worked as nurses before, and they immediately accept whatever salaries hospitals offer them. Not uncommon for NPs to start out below $100k.

If I were you, I’d encourage your daughter to to stay the RN route and get a job working in the ICU and accrue job experience for CRNA school. CRNA school is fricking difficult to get into though and most nurses won’t even sniff admissions. The schooling itself is extremely intense too.

Varies greatly on the specialty and whether you go hospital, private practice, etc.

Low end is usually 90-100k, high end could be up to 200k

They make some bank. I've tried to steer my daughter towards this, but she's focused on dermatology as of now.
