Daughter is starting her first semester at NP school in August at LSU. What sort of salaries are people getting as NPs in South Louisiana these days?

CRNA is where it is at. At on time when my daughter was in Nursing School CRNA was a NP level. They may have moved it to a PhD level but anyway it is bank.

My niece is a CRNA and is making $280K plus in Indy at a day surgery center, M-F, no weekends. OT is not too much. When your patients are gone you are done.

A lot of responses are why I don’t see the juice being worth the squeeze so far.

I make $70/hr great Insurance, 6% matching retirement - as a regular ‘ol floor RN up here in Massachusetts.

The extra pay just doesn’t seem commensurate w/ the extra liability and work - just imho.

Except Psych NP - they making 200k+

I never said we have the same training as an MD. There's a reason MDs are still around, but can tell you from working alongside lots of them there are some MDs that are not proficient and are scary as hell. I can also inform you from experience as an acute care NP in the ICU what the required hours are. See Louisiana State Board of Nursing Rules and Regulations - Page 46 "Curriculum Requirements."

What’s your schedule look like though? The NPs that I know did it mostly for better work/life balance due to having kids. They work weekdays only, no nights, weekends, or holidays. I have no idea how much they make, but I would assume it’s 120k+.

The truth is that the NP field is becoming super saturated. NP mills are pumping out NPs left and right who’ve never even worked as nurses before,

This is true. I know one personally. She’s a home health nurse from Bangladesh. Got her NP. She’s a fricking idiot and isn’t even a competent RN. Lot of foreign women from third world shitholes who are not smart at all have medical licenses they shouldn’t have.

I dont disagree with the CRNA advice but NP is about as universal a job as you could have.

Work anywhere, including telemed.

As previously said, saturation may become an issue in the coming years with how these online programs with 100% acceptance rates are pumping out grads now.
There are times where 4/5 floor RNs on my floor also have their NP. But overall, it is still one of the most feasible and solid return on investment jobs in healthcare.
