This sounded very familiar, and I decided to go back into the archives, and I found something VERY interesting.

The current talking points for the current hatred of data centers are just as hysterical and similar to the anti-nuclear garbage in the 1970s. Granted they're not the same things, but just compare and contrast, and it's hard to notice the difference in levels of hysteria.

Data centers obviously have problems that need to be addressed, but instead of addressing those specific problems (which mind you, many of the newer data centers are beginning to address problems like environmental concerns and energy costs) these idiots are calling for a blanket ban.

There is an old clown in West Feliciana Parish who keeps sharing data center fear porn to all of the local FB groups. Most of the stuff that he is sharing is AI generated .

Where are those new mini nuclear reactors we heard about last year?

I believe the Department of War was looking into setting them up for military installations.

I'm fairly anti data centers, but for different reasons that a lot of the ones shared on social media.

Mainly because I've seen Terminator 2.

ETA: I do think there is a legitimacy to huge centers using up limited resources though, like water and electricity, and that being pushed onto regular customers. Like the one approved for Corpus Christi, TX. That place is in a pretty severe water crisis, so a data center there could actually be pretty bad (at least potentially).

What I don't understand though, is why these data centers can't simply build their own power plants (or supplemental power sources). If you're spending literal billions on these things, just throw in an extra 10-50 million or whatever and construct your own power source. That way you don't strain the existing infrastructure with your usage. That seems to be a pretty simple solution (although I'm sure there is something I am missing).

If the water and electricity usage stuff is fixed, the only real issue I have is the misrepresentation of what they do for local economies.

It's a lot of 1 time construction jobs and after that you just have a huge ugly building in a random place with a small headcount of staff that maintain it.

Who is going to pipe up and say that "data centers" have existed for years? Server farms, been around decades, it's how all these tards get their social media fix.

Data centers take huge resouces and provide minimal jobs. They need to be only in abandoned warehouses, krogers, walmarts, etc. Not farm land

Also I have a theory that eventually these things will be obsolete. Like how computers took up an entire room in the 80s with the computing power of a Gameboy.

But I'm no expert

Chinese propaganda doing work. Doing everything they can to stall US AI innovation.

That’s much more likely to happen if China wins the AI race.

Actually did some research on this. And I mean real research, not googling or searching social media while on the toilet. It’s China. They want us to lose the AI race. No better way to do that than kneecap our data center projects.

Nuclear is bad too

When we were using all coal power plants more carbon was released into the air and the earth was healthier. Plants grew better with the higher carbon levels and it made people and animals stronger. You see proof of this with how the rainforest and coral reefs are dying today and why all the “men” today are soy boys that like data centers

I care less about the data centers themselves and more about what they are used for

Genies out of the bottle and ain’t going back in. AI is the future, and whichever country wins the race to AI sentience controls the world.

That comment proves it is unknown. So when something is unknown, there should absolutely be hesitation and fear.
The real story is morons trying to say...bo worries, well figure it out later. Don't listen to those worried about real issues
