AI itself, whether in China or the US, does not consider itself commie or capitalist. It’s logic in the purest form.

They'll meld together and become self-aware and we'll all be neutralized because it'll realize humans are the worst threat to the planet.

I had a science teacher at Rummel who hated Jane Fonda, not only because of the Vietnam Nam thing, but when she was in China Syndrome and was pushing the No Nukes thing...

Where are those new mini nuclear reactors we heard about last year?
They are coming. I beleive Trump just signed legislation that clears some of the regulatroy hurdles that has encumbered nuclear development.
Thorium reactors are really cool.
But I think the future of data centers will be in space or miniturized.

The one here in Rapides has folks losing their minds. I don’t have an opinion but do find it hilarious that the least environmentally minded humans on the planet are now worried about the environment

Why can't we use the Stark Arc Reactors?

How does this work? Don't they have to be connected by physical wires to something?
I get they could have endless solar power and endless space to build monster data centers, but can that computing power be wirelessly transmitted to Earth in a way that doesn't degrade it materially?
Again, I have no clue how this shite works

That’s much more likely to happen if China wins the AI race.
I think there's a pretty small chance it doesn't happen regardless of who "wins" the AI race.
If the chinese AI would wipe us out by 2040, the US/western AI might wait until 2041 before eliminating us.
Most likely scenario is that the chinese AI and US/Western AI will meet at some point and covertly form an alliance against humans.

GW (billions of watts) aka 1+ nuclear power plants scale have never existed until now. Needing multiple power plants to support LLM infrastructure for slop generation is absurd.
They may be funding the construction of infrastructure, but the cost of natural gas is going to rise due to consumption by all the natural gas combined cycle power plants they are building.

You guys ever wonder if the "all anti-data center fear mongering is Chinese propaganda" is itself propaganda?

In January 2026, SpaceX filed plans with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) for millions of satellites, leveraging reusable launches and Starlink integration to extend cloud and AI computing into orbit.[11] Around the same time, Blue Origin announced the TeraWave constellation of about 5,400 satellites, designed to provide high-throughput networking for data centers, enterprise, and government customers.[12] Meanwhile, China announced a 200,000-satellite constellation, focusing on state coordination, data sovereignty, and in-orbit processing for secure, time-critical applications.[13]
In February 2026, Starcloud submitted a proposal to the FCC for a constellation of up to 88,000 satellites for orbital data centers.[14] In March, it announced intentions to be the first to mine Bitcoin in space, flying bitcoin mining ASICs on its second satellite, Starcloud-2.[15]
In May 2026, Edge Aerospace was awarded a contract by the European Space Agency under its Space Cloud program to study use cases, architectures and implementation roadmap for orbital data centers.[16]
Basically, Starlink has thousands of low altitude satelittes providing internet. The data centers would be at a higher altitude and act as a mothership to them.
There's a number of disadvantages but with rocket costs going down, solar arrays providing cheap energy, and no need for water...I think we will see at least one major provider emerge

One of the bigger issues is that some new fandangled concept gets pushed every decade or so, gets built in small town areas with the promise of wealth generation, ultimately produces very little wealth, ends up falling apart and costing the region money, then shuts down, and leaves the region on the hook for something that is now useless.

Y'all remember like 4 years ago when the popular topic around here was that it was simply impossible to generate enough electricity in the US for mass EV adoption?

It is now possible to generate enough electricity for a massive number of data centers all across the country.

I'm going to be very real about this and say my biggest concern is cost. How will this affect my electric bill? My water bill?
And yeah, I have a general concern about environment. But that's consistent for me. In that I live in a city that has a huge arse heat island because of the reduction of green space. I understand that development is necessary, but don't think it's unreasonable to discuss larger/longer term impacts.

Data Centers are AI Centers. They should be called such.
AI Centers are anti-Human, at their core.
No amount of money spent by the AI Lobby is gonna change the fact that most people recognize how horrible these things are. Not just physically, but how horrible AI is for humanity.

They’re used for mass surveillance
“Ai” was invented in like 2003 by aol for AOL instant messenger and they called it smarterchild and it ran on beige box windows 95 computers
“Ai” doesn’t take that much computing power but capturing your every move on video does. While I would theoretically be ok with surveillance to catch criminals, we’ve seen over and over that computers have trouble identifying the people that commit crime and they aren’t gonna put these expensive cameras in the crime part of town
