I’ve always wondered what Daryl couldn’t go for.

Had to be something pretty crazy!

It is a funny partnership because Hall did do most of the writing, but he has not had any similar success as a solo artist. For whatever reasons, the partnership worked.

always thought that was a strange combo, nothing really stood out musically, pretty much bubblegum pop, seems like they made a lot of money at it

Daryl Hall has always outshined John Oates musically, or that’s been the perception, and while an absolutely tremendous talent, his ego apparently rivals his loyalties and relationships. Why would you throw John under the bus like that after all these years, if it weren’t to bask in your own pride and accomplishments to a pretty ugly level if you ask me. Basically acceptable humility would be in at least recognizing the simple truths of life that nobody achieves anything in this life without help from others along the way. The world is riddled with enormously talented people who were not blessed with the same success as others of equal value because they didn’t enjoy the same breaks and assistance in getting to the same destination.

In short, even if you are the big daddy, arrogance, boasting, and throwing your friends under the bus so you can shine is not a pretty thing.

He should leave Oates alone, he's a family man.

Fun fact...Hall & Oates is not and never was the name of the band.

ETA: Darryl Hall and John Oates is a great station on Pandora.

Oasis couldn't last what? 10?

Splitting hairs but Oasis made music for the better part of 20 years, they were together longer than Outkast. Just seems less because they were fighting all the damn time. I bet WTSMG sold more than all of H&Os records combined.

99% of people know that, but I'd wager 99% of people think Hall & Oates is the name of the band.

Seemed a more interesting factoid than a "nitpick" to me. I wouldn't really call it analogous to the "Stones" situation either.

I'm pretty sure everyone knows they are REALLY the 'Rolling Stones.' Who ever thinks of Hall and Oates as anything but Hall and Oates?

Is there anyone in the music industry who ever had a weirder ambiguously gay put-on than those two dudes?

But Live at Daryl's House is a great collaborative effort with a variety of musicians. Its streams on several platforms and on Youtube. Worth viewing for any music fan

Daryl is telling John he can’t go for that. No can do.
