I believe David Bowie invented the genre.

Not that there’s anything wrong with that.

Bowie fricking ruled.

It is a funny partnership because Hall did do most of the writing, but he has not had any similar success as a solo artist. For whatever reasons, the partnership worked.

They had some unforgettable great lyrics

Here's the better version of that song. Her voice is so damn smooth.

its not just now. Even in the 80s hall was bitching that people weren't saying he was the next elvis. He's always been a narcissistic egotistical douche

But Live at Daryl's House is a great collaborative effort with a variety of musicians.

Their early work was a little too new wave for my taste. But when Sports came out in '83, I think they really came into their own, commercially and artistically. The whole album has a clear, crisp sound, and a new sheen of consummate professionalism that really gives the songs a big boost. He's been compared to Elvis Costello, but I think Huey has a far more bitter, cynical sense of humor.

Darryl Halls "Live from Daryls House" was a awesome series. We listen to it weekly.

I dont know what is behind the issue with them but Daryl Hall is a hell of a musician and collaborator
quote:

I've been a big Genesis fan ever since the release of their 1980 album, Duke. Before that, I really didn't understand any of their work. Too artsy, too intellectual. It was on Duke where Phil Collins' presence became more apparent. I think Invisible Touch was the group's undisputed masterpiece. It's an epic meditation on intangibility. At the same time, it deepens and enriches the meaning of the preceding three albums. Christy, take off your robe. Listen to the brilliant ensemble playing of Banks, Collins and Rutherford. You can practically hear every nuance of every instrument. Sabrina, remove your dress. In terms of lyrical craftsmanship, the sheer songwriting, this album hits a new peak of professionalism.

The longer bands/ duos seem to hang around, the number of lawsuits filed against each other begins to outnumber the number of hits these bands had in their heyday.

See Journey, Styx, Foreigner, Eagles, CCR, etc.

Both are from Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. Hall was born in Pottstown and Oates went to North Penn High school.

Philadelphia always gets the credit because they met at Temple...but they are Montgomery County guys.

I mention them everytime I give a speech.
