The interstate issue in Bmt. right now is a YUGE problem. But yes, you are right, if you know the back streets, it's easy to navigate.

To the original poster, if you travel a little further I10 towards Houston, there is a Cheddar's, a brand new Twin Peaks, and a Pappadeaux's. Not necessarily saying those are the best restaurants, however, didn't know if you were aware they were there.

I go to Port Arthur/Beaumont all the time for work and the place is indeed garbage. Unfriendly people who think dressing up like cowboys and going to Buffalo Wild Wings is living the high life.

Not to mention they want to be Louisiana so bad. From the plethora of bad Cajun restaurants to the fact they try to have Mardi Gras.

Makes Baton Rouge look like one of the great cities of America.

Funny you say that. The company that catered lunch did red beans with potato salad and corn bread

This is the first time I've been west of Lake Charles since I was a little kid. Makes me appreciate Louisiana so much more.

We had a guy quit a $90k/yr job in Baton Rouge because it is wasn't a big enough city for him and it was too conservative for his liking. Took a $10k pay cut to move to NYC as a supervisor at some union paint mixing company. Two years of that made him take a political turn to the hard right, and now he's working in Beaumont Texas and posting random Trump stuff on Facebook.

I'll also add, he had trouble saving money as a single 20-something with no kids at $90k/yr in Baton Rouge...

Had one of my all time favorite meals at that Pappadeaux's. Not b/c of the steak or the shrimp but the... Mashed potatoes. They were abolutely delicious.

I swear it's absolutely true

I don't know how they spiced or cooked it but it was one of the most delicious things I've ever eaten

Whenever there's a "What would you eat for your last meal?" thread on here I always include Pappadeax's mashed potatoes.

Dude, just drive South down Dowlen and you'll find all the regular chain places like BW3, Logan's Roadhouse, etc. They even have a Raising Cane's now.

Beaumont's incredibly easy to get around, you can get on the interstate but you don't need to if you're near the mall.
