I used to work in Beaumont. Would in a hotel Monday-Friday then head home for the weekend.
1- Several natives of the region have told me that Beaumont has more lawyers per capital than any other city??
2- Best Asian fried rice I've ever had is the garlic basil fried rice from Chaba Thai, which now has two locations in the city.
3- The Checkers at 11th and Calder is legit. The fries are always melt in your mouth hot.
4- As someone above stated, mule beer back to Louisiana from the HEB.

Yeah PArkdale is the better part. Go down Dowlen away from the highway. That has a few "new" places. Or new to me. Otherwise drive to Nederland or "Mid County" places near Central Mall. If you have time to kill head to Port Neches. they have a Neches River Wheelhouse. Its a bar. You'd swear it was the greatest thing, and sadly it IS to those people. It is the old site of Coastal Marine on the river. they still have an old crane and platform/pier on site. I used to fish off of that thing as a child.
You are drinking beer where there was once a tanker fire. The Mara Hope (google it) burned right there. I can't imagine what soil samples would show right there. But people in that area NEVER got a bar. So it is sadly a pretty good spot.
Beaumont folk, is Crockett Street still even a thing?? Does anybody go down there?
Beaumont is a shithole to be appreciated. It makes you realize how good your hometown was.

If you are near a freeway in Beaumont you are in a shitty part of town. You have to get a few miles off I-10/ Eastex to find the better parts. Parkdale Mall is somewhat of an exception....but its just a mall.

I was born and raised just North of Beaumont and agree with you. I spent many days of my youth duck hunting in McFaddin, deer hunting in Hillister, and fishing Sabine Lake and I would not trade it for the world.
OP, you should head down Phelan and go to Elena's. It is one of the best Mexican restaurants in the area. The chili relleno is one of the best that I have ever had.
Also, the BBQ crabs at Sartins were not to be missed. I hear that you can still get them but not all you can eat like it used to be.

I know it used to be scary as hell. Speaking of haunted, did anyone ever go out to that abandoned plantation in Vidor ? That place was creepy as could be and there was all kinds of graffiti and satanic symbols on the walls inside the house. You got a huge creeped out feeling as you walked in the house. There was also an old oak tree with what looked like old rope burns on a couple of its branches behind the house.

I was born on the bayou..iterally. pine island bayou. Roy guess elementry. Used to buy my star wars action figures at Parkdale mall back in the late 70s/80s. Would crush a ice cream BanAna split Sunday at Farrells.

I was going to suggest Elena's but figured I would get downvoted to hell because it isn't "real" Mexican from Houston.

That's out toward my direction. We would get our Star Wars action figures as well as our G.I. Joes at the mall. We would eat dinner Sirloin Stockade on Saturdays after spending the day at the mall. Beaumont was the big city compared to my little home town.
