I know a dealership or salesman would never tell you different but they have their drawbacks. Like their Totally integrated power modules. No more replacing relays and some fuses. They're all built into a $800 module that needs to be programmed to the vehicle when replaced. And they go bad quite often. Don't believe me? TIPM

Mine is a 2017.
Bought it new, and have since put well over 200,000 miles on it.
Couldn’t be happier.

I don’t know about the newest Rams, but the resale value of recent prior models (before the major overhaul) was affected by all of the incentives offered by Ram to make their trucks competitive (because people have a well-earned bias against Chrysler/Dodge products). Everyone knew that if a ram was stickered at 45k it really meant you could get it for low 30s. And that carried over to resale markets.
Hell, my co-worker just bought a 2020 Ram 2500 Limited diesel for $55k. It has 1,800 miles on it because the dealer drove it. Sticker on that truck was over $80k.

First I’ve ever heard of that and I frequent various Ram forums and FB groups. Brief google shows it only affects 2008-2011 Rams. Seems like an overall non-issue.

quote:Dodge/Chrysler refused to issue a recall on an issue that plagued almost every vehicle manufactured. New models do have TIPM modules. Latest model I had to replace one in was a 2017 Town and Country mini van. Knowing what I know about how Dodge/Chrysler did their customers , I would never recommend anyone to buy their product. You may want to dive a little deeper into the issues and educate yourself with this problem that plagued every lineup they offer/offered.

I’m not disagreeing that it’s a poor design and that every vehicle has this TIPM. I’m just saying it doesn’t seem that widespread of an issue, especially in tbe Ram trucks. I’ve owned 3 Rams, two of which would have had the TIPM...also about 10+ other posters in this thread with Rams; no one has had a TIPM failure.

I am still driving my 2010 Ram. It is pushing 200K miles. The best truck I have ever owned. Made for the highway, roomy & comfortable and it still runs like a bat outta hell. I had some factory covered issues with the drive shaft hub early on, but other than regular maintenance, no major issues at all. It has held up better than expected and I have drove the shite out of it.

have a 19 Ram. I prefer it to the wife Lexus. Damn thing rides better, is quieter, more features and is fun to drive.
I’ve never driven a new Ram. I do like the looks. Is it possible that the ride is too nice? I drive a Tundra certainly rides like a truck (and it’s truckiness is why I bought it). Is it weird driving a truck which rides like a Lexus?

My F150 has several recalls on it right now. I haven't bothered taking it in yet.

I would not be afraid to buy a Ram. A while back I did a little lurking on a Ram message board and did notice some common complaints pop up. Many complained of the underpowered AC. Some had leaks—I would never buy a sunroof. Others complained of brake issues.

I have had my Ram since 1999 it has 412k on it and still goes where I want when I want, only issue I have had with it is the transmission died once.

Since no one has a Consumer's Reports subscription here, I'll post the 2020 predicted reliability scores for full size trucks as seen in the Jan 2020 CR.
Toyota Tundra = 75
Ford F-350 = 41
Ford F-250 = 36
Nissan Titan = 27
Chevy Silverado 1500 = 20
GMC Sierra 1500 = 20
Ford F-150 = 20
Ram 1500 = 18
But it has a super nice interior.

It's still a DODGE, don't care that they just put RAM on it. Trade and re-sell value is kaput. That's why many have said for forever, "You Buy a Dodge, You die with a Dodge." because you can't ever get rid of it.
Oh, and my 2020 Ram is a week old. Love everything about it except how XM is displayed. Pretty pissed about that.

good thing Toyota gets such favorable PREDICTED reliability scores. cause everyone I know that owns one says the MPG sucks balls.

A 2 point different between Ford/GM and Ram isn’t a whole lot. Toyota is high, that’s expected but the Tundra is almost a decade behind its competition in terms of features and Toyota still asks too much for them.

I don't work in the auto industry. It's easy to see why the Toyotas are more reliable than the Dodge's. Go to any Toyota and Dodge dealership and just count the service bay doors. The dealer with the most bay doors loses, because they need all those bays to work on all those poor quality vehicles. Hence Dodge beats Toyota in service doors everytime. lol
