Rewards VS Cash Back

Take the cash, hell with the rewards
the amount of value you can get out of hotel and airline miles/points is so astonishing and blows cashback completely out of the water if you are willing to learn how to competently use them

To answer your question OP. Its really up to how you live your life and what to you want

Credit card rewards and perks have become so specialized that what works for one person may not work for the other. Some people want an easy no nonsense card that earns 2/3% back on everything and thats that. Some want to maximize and have multiple cards that earn 4/5% back on specialized categories. Some people love perks and status and lounge access and are willing to spend hefty fees to get those. Other people try to avoid fees like they are the devil. Some people are like me and think 90% of the value comes from sign up bonuses so we open cards, hit our bonus, move on the next, and cancel when the fee hits. Some people like points, some people like cashback

Just sharing my approach.

I use Chase cards for travel rewards and benefits. Have the Freedom Unlimited, Chase Sapphire Preferred, and Reserve. I use the Freedom unlimited for everyday purchases to get 1.5x. I have a US Bank Cash+ Card that I put all bills on and some bill categories like utilities, internet, water, trash give me 5x. I pay my utilities at my house and rental property to help maximize those points. I treat those points each year as a gift to myself for our anniversary dinner for us paying our bills on time that year. Its usually $500-$600 in rewards. I typically average about $150-$200 worth of points per month accrual on my chase cards. I save those up enough to book airplane tickets/hotels for upcoming vacations. Chase travel portal allows up to 2x point redemption for some hotels.

But you have to use them, which requires using hotels and airlines enough (sometimes before the points expire, like my AA points did)

Just get cash from cards with no annual fees and make your credit utilization rate lower with each card.

I'm at a cross roads with this. Was great to have the Chase UR points when I was traveling more. Now not so much. Hate to see them sit there when I could put the cash to use on things I need for the family and house.

5 Capital One cards that offer cash back
Actually 6 since Capital One just took over Discover
Anyway, I receive cash back but then I give all of it to Jeff Bezos

Yes and requires jumping through their hoops

Its a lot and its not easy and takes time to learn and I totally get why a person would have no interest in them

But I've been able to make it work for me but totally see a future where I say enough of this and recommit to cashback
