I have a friend whose grandpa invented the pop tab on canned drinks. They make royalties on every can with one.
I went to school with a guy whose dad invented the airbag deployment mechanism. Rich but not as much as pop tab family.
Then opposite end of the spectrum. I know a guy who in high school got in the back seat of gmc jimmy. And along with the two guys in the front, while drunk, decided to jump the car over a 3 story dirt mound in the middle of a flat park. Two in the front didn’t wear seat belts and were actually almost okay. Guy in the back seat had seatbelt on. Injuries from the lap belt caused the removal of intestine and extensive surgeries. He got about 3.5 million in settlement and now has a real estate rental empire worth like 30 million.

Frack Sand is a special sand that doesn’t compress as much as normal sand
You have the general concept right but compress is the wrong term. Frac sand is mostly quarts and doesn't crush as easily or as much as other types of sand and is there fore more durable as well. And there is a significant shortage of frac sand in west Texas right now.
Here is a really good article on the sand "gold rush" going on in the Permian Basin right now.

Lady who worked for the same outfit as I was on a dock in Bellingham Washington and the ramp collapsed, breaking her pelvis pretty badly. She got 16 million.

i made fun of him before i knew who he was or what he looked like. when i read his story i instantly had respect for him.
He's actually pretty down to earth in interviews. Hes a white normal suburban dude from DFW. Who would have thunk?
And his music is catchy as hell

I know someone well that he and his sister inherited an obscure piece of land tied to a large oil and gas lease - in the 80s oil bust... The sister's know it all husband said the land wasn't worth anything and they would never get royalties from it.... they hit financial hard times in early 90s... wanted to sell the mineral rights for 2-3 k...
the brother offered them 1,500 they took it....
shortly after fracking came into play.. brother never worked again.... just sat back

There is a lady who goes to my local bar and plays video poker every day. Her grandfather invented the bicycle kick stand. He sold the idea to every bike maker, but kept the patent and the family still gets a royalty from almost every bike made.

I made a bad judgement based on his looks.
After watching many interviews and downloading beerbongs and bentleys, I couldn’t deny that his vibes are damn strong and I had rushed too soon to judgement.

My old schoolmate is a millionaire now by selling old barn wood. People use it on their new builds for the look.
I honestly don't know how rich these guys are. They do pretty good. They might be millionaires, they might might make just enough to provide for their family. They live relatively modest, but they go out in the atchafalaya and find cypress (old cypress trees that is at the bottom of the water that has been there a long time, either from erosion or storms, etc). But they mine cypress. They sell it to people who wants it in their house and they build customized products.. Tables, desk, chairs, etc.
It's two guys who do it all. Someone who knows them told me that if they were to hire a few more people to finish each project faster, they could probably make double of what they do now because, at the least, they turn down several projects a week.

Oil and Gas
One of my good buddies from back home never graduated from high school, was in and out of jail, drugs, divorced three times with kids he never fathered or paid for all over.
He was 40 before he ever had a steady job, got in oil/gas equipment rentals then bought his own equipment slowly.
Boom - started making 35-40k a month.
Three years later he died - true story, I was a pallbearer in his funeral.
