As a former Pit Boss myself, I can guarantee he didn't tell you a tenth of the game. It's the most complicated game in the house, by far.

You can lose fast by betting on stuff you don't understand, but you can also win big if you do know what you're doing (and get lucky). The table has some of the best and worst odds in the house... all on the same run of felt.

I didn’t make a single field bet.

The only thing worse than an opening 7, is a 7 on the 2nd or 3rd roll, after you’re good and committed.

The pass line is no friend of mine.

So you played the Don't Pass line? Because that's the only way you'd lose, unless you also decided to play big on something like 2/3/12 single rolls. Opening sevens is good for you in the situation you described.

Did you mean the only thing worse than a seven AFTER the point has been established is on the 2nd or 3rd roll? Then yes, that isn't fun. In the future find a $10 table, play either the pass or don't pass line for a while, and pay attention to how any why people are winning or losing.

Oh, and don't chase numbers.

Craps and BJ are both games that require some knowledge of odds and method of play, but especially craps. The best way to learn craps is to have a friend that understands the game give you some lessons. Barring that, I'd get a book. Craps isn't a game you just want walk up and start throwing chips around. No dealer is going to invest enough time into really teaching you how to play to be effective.

But, craps is a blast. I'll play craps before any other game in a casino.

Baccarat is where it's at.

Eta....craps is a great game if you know what you're doing but you still need a bankroll to get though the early crap outs.

Best odds in the house, short of counting cards at blackjack.

I love craps.

It's the only game In the casino you can play all night with just a $100.

I payed for a semester of my college exclusively with craps winning (thanks lauberge).

I find that if you can get on a good table, with a lot of people, bet slow until a couple of numbers are rolled (to avoid a one or two roll and out scenario).

There are far fewer 5 roll and out points than there are 2 roll and out points.

Eta: there's fewer things more exciting than hitting 5x odds on a 4, or hitting a couple come bets in a row.

If the table of cold. Play low and slow

Don’t pass
Don’t come (point number)
Buy 6
Buy 8

Hit a few 6’s and a few 8’s and when they crap out, the don’t pass and don’t come pay.

The Cromwell currently has one table of single zero roulette, the only one in vegas. That's a 97.3% return on you money.

Second would be baccarat, but learn how to play first.

About the same odds as baccarat is perfect strategy jacks or better video poker. Just use your phone while you're playing for the more difficult spots to determine optimal strategy. Not deuces wild or triple progressive or any of that other bullshite. As a general rule of thumb, the higher the jackpot, the lower the average payout. Same applies to slots - also the newer machine, the larger the machine, and the closer the machine is to the entrance or high traffic areas, the lower the payout.

Everyone else in this thread is wrong.

ETA: you could also google this shite to get the exact payouts of any table game, so not sure why you're asking a message board, seeking the advice of "experts" who "always win" or "paid their way through college". If there was a game that anyone could beat in the long run, this city wouldn't fricking exist

Look around you. Those casinos and hotels are not paid for because the pit boss can teach you how to beat the house. I learned that lesson a long time ago.

If the table allows 100x or unlimited odds with a low minimum, you can get the house edge to a number approaching zero.

From there, the only question is whether you have a huge wad of cash, discipline, time, and the ability to walk away when ahead. If you do, you can generally walk away ahead or even.

There is a reason the casino makes craps players stand (unlike blackjack). They want you in and out, because they don’t make money on long players with a plan.

Don't think that's right. I think that your best odds are supposed to be baccarat from what I've read. Have no idea how to play. After that is black jack if you can do the whole card counting thing.

The come out roll in craps is the only bet in a casino that the odds favor the player. After that rollthe odds revert back to the house.
Blackjack pays the most money back in winnings. Slots are the worst. As eith any game in the casino, if you play long enough the house will take your money.

I had a friend who could constantly win at Black Jack an duse those winnings playing Craps. If he lost at Craps, it’s back to the Black Jack to fund the Craps, and so on....

The gambler's fallacy, is the mistaken belief that, if something happens more frequently than normal during a given period, it will happen less frequently in the future (or vice versa). In situations where the outcome being observed is truly random and consists of independent trials of a random process, this belief is false. The fallacy can arise in many situations, but is most strongly associated with gambling, where it is common among players.

I do know this: if one or both of those dice go off the table a fricking 7 is coming next roll.

True story - the man who introduced craps to North America was Jean-Bernard Xavier Philippe de Marigny de Mandeville.

Yes, the man after whom both Mandeville AND the Marigny are named introduced the game, based on an English dice game "Hazard" and called in local parlance Crapaud, in New Orleans, evolved into the modern dice game of craps. He also founded the Fairgrounds race track.

Bonus fact: Obviously a degenerate gambler, Marigny (as he was mainly known), that despite these fortunes made in real estate development, extensive political connections (he was the Governor's aide during the Battle of New Orleans) and being on the ground floor of things like craps and horse racing, he lost all his shite due to his gambling habit and died broke as a joke.
