Looked it up. Apparently blackjack, craps, and baccarat are all very close in odds.

There’s a site that will tell you what Vegas takes every month...blackjack and craps take in WAY more money than anything else. I guess that’s because people think they have a better chance to win so more people play...in the end the odds don’t make much difference. Most people are going to lose anyway.

You people are fricking morons...

This thread is about Craps.

Craps can be an expensive habit, but the more you know about the game the more you can extend your roll.. And stay in long enough to get a heater.

With that said, it is a rush to be at a table that is hot and everyone is cheering..I've heard people say it's a better feeling than any drug they ever took.

In my opinion craps is the most fun you can have in a casino but it’s fast game, you can win or lose a lot of money in a very short time. It’s like herorin.

I cannot speak to being like "herorin" but do agree with your other three points.

My visit to Coushatta last week:

Typically I saw several players exit the table after making too many place bets when three shooters went point seven. I started playing the DON'Ts until the table resumed the normal "chop."

Two young men who looked to be about 18 years old and mentioned they never played craps before in a casino won about $600.00 by winning about six of seven or seven of eight Field Bets and hauled butt to a Roulette wheel. Go figure.

I shot six consecutive sevens on the come out roll. Mostly the table wisely discontinued betting on the All High/All Low gimmick and some of them followed me with hopping reds on the fifth and sixth roll. My previous best was five consecutive sevens on three occasions.

It is a negative expectation game but the player can vary the amount of his bets. In the last few years I have begun to follow the trend of the table as opposed to being a math junkie which allowed me to do better than the odds would dictate.

I should disclose that after about twenty-two years experience with this game I am still in the bucket. I have been able to reduce the amount bet when losing but need to bet a greater amount when the trend indicates and become less conservative. (akin to playing for the tie in the overtime loss to the Aggies, I suppose).

For the three hour session I had a net win of $85.00 on a $ 500.00 buy-in, a delicious bowl of comped gumbo and a good time with some good Texas acquaintances that are regular guests. The session allowed me to play again soon.

I wish you all many good rolls.

If you knew anything about craps... you wouldn't play.

Best odds? If I win any drawings or anything they give me slot money. All casinos do this. You have to put the money back in, but any winnings are yours.

I immediately go play deuces wild video poker --- at 99.73 percent (or better) to get that money in hand.

I've said this many times, but will give this professional advice once again.

You play the games at the highest locked in known odds percentage-wise, such as video poker,

THEN you see which casinos offer the best comps for the days you are there. Go to each one at the time they are running things like 10X points, or get 75 points on the card and spin and win, and now you are playing ABOVE the casino (at more than 100 percent) when you figure in the free rooms, the free meals, the slot money you get with the promotions.

Games like slots are anywhere from 86 to 98 percent, you don't know -- unless there is a sign up that says "98 percent" above the bank of machines. If you have to play slots, look for those. Not a sign that says "Up to 98 percent" that could be anywhere from 86 to 98 percent, so that's another scam they use.

Video poker, if you know how to play correctly is one of the best plays in the house. There are several types of games, learn 2 or 3 different ones, and you can have fun and stay, play, eat and drink for free.

Back in the early 60’s, freshman year in BR, I drove an Great Uncle & friend to a certain Texaco station in LaPlace. The old guy was in his 80’s, but he loved the craps table. Was at the table for almost 24 hours, losing what amounted to my college education.

Did that have an impact on this youngster! Oh yes, I was hooked! I love the game, but as I have gotten older, also learned to disiciplne the time at any one session. The old song was never more true, “ Know when to walk away, know when to run”.

If you do not have the staying power, do not begin.

About the same odds as baccarat is perfect strategy jacks or better video poker. Just use your phone while you're playing for the more difficult spots to determine optimal strategy. Not deuces wild or triple progressive or any of that other bullshite. As a general rule of thumb, the higher the jackpot, the lower the average payout. Same applies to slots - also the newer machine, the larger the machine, and the closer the machine is to the entrance or high traffic areas, the lower the payout.

All video poker is programmed to have a payout of X%. Even if you play “perfect strategy” video poker you cannot manipulate those odds. It is effectively slots with an illusion of control

Craps is great fun and if you know how to bet some of the best odds in the house. . When the table is winning everybody is cutting up . The problem with craps is you have to load up each new roll and so it takes lot to play properly & when you lose you lose big.
I love to play Craps when I'm with my FIL, who has a doctorate degree in actuarial mathematics, the study of risk. He is brilliant, and when he plays craps he understands the game so incredibly well that I play along with him, and play on top of his bets. NEVER walked away with less than a couple extra grand.

Solid post.

Pretty much the same strategy/mindset I have.

But I’d add that I don’t gamble to make money; it’s just entertainment. I enjoy a craps table with a good crowd.

I walk in with a predetermined X amount of dollars to spend on a good evening of entertainment, expecting to spend it all. Just like I would for a night out for dinner and drinks, a concert, etc.

When that moneys gone, I walk away. If I happen to be ahead when my wife or friends are ready to go, I consider it a lagniappe on the evening.

I didn’t make a single field bet.

The only thing worse than an opening 7, is a 7 on the 2nd or 3rd roll, after you’re good and committed.

The pass line is no friend of mine.

is that your game?

This. I look at a night at the casino the same as any other night out. If I lose 100 or 200 over the course of an evening, it still costs less than dinner and a night bar hopping

If I come out even or ahead, then i basically got q free evening of entertainment

That is wonderful. I have never met anyone with those qualifications that always walked away with that kind of profit.

What is his bankroll? (buy-in money)
What is his average bet?
What type of bets does he make?
Does he hedge bets? i.e.Any craps with a pass line bet)
Does he have a loss limit? Does he have the discipline to walk away when he loses a series of bets?
Does he change strategy with a hot or cold table?
Does he believe in numbers clumping? i.e. Trends.

How do you attribute always winning with a negative expectation game?

I’m pretty sure they take in more from slots than anything else. It’s why you see row after row of them

Agree, someone could be the greatest living mind in the field of statistics with a PhD from MIT, and that will not change the odds of the game, or their probability of winning a fraction of a decimal point, if anything that knowledge would discourage them from playing at all.

This. There is no way to overcome the house edge. None.

The best one can hope for is to get lucky right at first, then quit while ahead.

Certainly cannot disagree with that concept. Never a bad idea to put some chips in your pocket if you get ahead. Dice players tend to leave their winning bets up too long as some people keep their winning stocks when they are so high that they would not purchase them at those prices. Taking a profit is rarely a poor idea,I suspect.

"Get in, get up, and get gone."

I do know this: if one or both of those dice go off the table a fricking 7 is coming next roll.

That’s interesting. I have seen countless dice go over the table and the next roll not be a 7.

I look at it the other way around. If I’m in Vegas and spend like $500 on a night out, it’s probably less than I would have spent gambling
