Covid19 is now officially a hoax

"Based on results of the first round of testing, the research team estimates that approximately 4.1% of the county's adult population has antibody to the virus. Adjusting this estimate for statistical margin of error implies about 2.8% to 5.6% of the county's adult population has antibody to the virus- which translates to approximately 221,000 to 442,000 adults in the county who have had the infection. That estimate is 28 to 55 times higher than the 7,994 confirmed cases of COVID-19 reported to the county by the time of the study in early April. The number of COVID-related deaths in the county has now surpassed 600."
This is huge if true. The numbers in this report imply that the case fatality rate for COVID-19 ranges from 0.27% - 0.357%, barely above the seasonal flu's rate of .1%. And it's entirely possible COVID deaths are being overcounted, so the true rate could be even lower.
If we assume a fatality rate of 1/350, this would imply that the actual number of COVID-19 cases in the state of New York is 6.65 million, or about 1/3rd of the state's population. This really is not that implausible, considering that the seasonal flu infects 20 percent of the population each year.:

In raw numbers, sure. I have no dog in this hunt, but I'm not sure if "three times more deadly than the flu" counts as "barely above" in any practical sense

Look I’m all on board of the belief that we need to open everything back up, but 2-3 times the fatality is not barely above.
Again, still not worth shutting everything down, but not “statistically insignificant”

While I'm not a Trump fan, with as quickly as the media jumps all over things that are either "leaked" (accurately or not) about him or the White House I'm supposed to believe that no one has come across this hot mic video? Or reported on it?

Like the mass shootings and other things that have actually taken people's lives it is hard to call something a hoax.
Maybe, the precautions were/are overboard, but we have the benefit of hindsight. Had we done nothing this may have been worse than the flu we will never know.
There are real people who are really dead, so it is hard to call this a hoax in respect of others who may have lost someone to this virus.
Also, calling this a hoax is tough to swallow for the healthcare workers that are watching people die for 12 hours a day. Then heading home to do homeschooling at 10pm with their kids and not knowing if they are carrying the virus home to their family. I can't imagine that type of fear. I venture to say that "hoax" has never entered their minds.

I just wish people would have enough humility and sense to realize that NOBODY really knows what the frick is going on or what to expect.
This is an unprecedented time in history, yet that doesn’t stop joe the maintenance guy, or nancy the office clerk (both of whom have ZERO medical experience with infectious diseases) from hopping on social media, getting on their soapbox, and telling everyone else how they think they should be living their life

My wife is a nurse (stay at home mom now who keeps her license) and has quite a few friends who are working at hospitals, one in Boston who just got involuntarily got moved to essentially COVID-19 Hospice, caring for those who are beyond medical help and are going to die.
For sure, we're still learning the numbers and how this is truly affecting the country, but this "hoax" stuff is really insulting to those working in it every day.
