There is certainly reason for immediate panic in South Africa:

They've been in a severe drought for years.
Plus rioting is quite common. I know a man who lived there, the rioting nearby got so bad he abandoned his family farm and business, emigrated first to Canada and eventually to the US.

Correct. Thankfully Africa only had large amounts of travel/traffic from China due to the massive investment in the continent by the country over the past ten or more years.
So with it only being traffic from China it hasn't been too bad.
