The difficult part about this is everyone is "right":
Group 1: Social distancing worked! There are so few cases because society has done a great job adapting to what the government has asked.
Group 2: This virus is a joke! So few people are infected. Time to get back to work. The experts were wrong. Open up the economy!
Both groups can use "few people are infected" to their benefit ...

The. Old. People. Who. Get. This. And. Die. Would. Have. Died. Anyway.
How can you not see that is the point I’m trying to make?! We haven’t reached capacity anywhere. They got care and still died. They will get care and still die.
The whole point was simply to delay their deaths so they didn’t clog up the system at once. Did that save other people? Sure. I’ve NEVER claimed it didn’t. But that number is way overblown. And it wasn’t done for the sake of the old people who get this. It was for all the other people who would need ICU and vents.
How can you not see that is the point I’m trying to make?! We haven’t reached capacity anywhere. They got care and still died. They will get care and still die.

The OP is an example of that.
I don't really think it is up for debate at this point that the initial models were based on extremely bad data, which is why they were so extreme.
What I was trying to state, before this thread turned into a walk down memory lane, is that research shows that social distancing measures have, at the most, around a 30% impact on numbers.
We were seeing 40+% in many regions and even 90% reduction in Alabama.
Yes, social distancing has had an impact, and anyone saying otherwise is an idiot, but the initial predictions were bad.
Very bad.
Scruffy-level bad.

What I didn’t say and you chose to argue against:
“... easing stress on our healthcare system won't save anyone.”
“It's not an automatic death sentence for the old no matter how much you wish it to be so.”

Those are strawmans. I’ve said multiple times now keeping hospitals under capacity was the goal and it does save lives just not mainly the ones people think it does. Ive never once said that covid was a death sentence for the old. And I certainly don’t wish that since I’ve been saying they should be quarantined for a month. And of course care matters. It’s not a matter of zero hospital available with no care at all vs a billion vents and icu beds. Again, I clarified my point in a previous post regarding this.
I made this post not for your benefit. You’ll ignore the points, of course. I mean, you chose to argue against the strawmans to begin with so why wouldn’t you now? It’s more for others who think anything you’ve claimed I’ve said is true. Have a nice day.
