The date on which this claim was made matters tho. I wouldn't fault anyone for thinking that back in the early stages when we knew much less and were lied to by China

Well, I never bought China’s numbers as fact and thought they were higher, so I can’t use that as a defense.

I just didn’t account for many factors that arose, including NO getting crushed.

Or anywhere else in the US apparently.

We're currently at 22x your prediction taking all of Louisiana out

I’ve said this from the beginning:

It was the leaders and politicians’ job to hype this to try and get people to comply. The message was: Stay home. Save lives. If you’re telling people that this would only kill 10-40k, then you won’t have people listen and it doesn’t justify the measures we took. The possible numbers had to be huge just to get people to listen. And then you make the pearl clutchers believe that their “action” of staying home makes them heroes and they’re saving grandma. It’s a powerful message and worked. People stayed home with relatively little to no real backlash.

You've convinced yourself that easing stress on our healthcare system won't save anyone. You're all in on thinking this is a nothing burger

I’m pretty sure that the task force predicted between 100k and 200k deaths. I can’t recall the exact date that prediction was made, though. Any predictions with this pandemic are relative to the models they are currently working with. I think they should just avoid predictions altogether.

Because it is the most prominent of issues affecting this board and easiest one of my wrong predictions to point out.

Still correct it wasn’t 100s of thousands.

Just undershot a bit.

I’ve told you multiple times now and you are ignoring that I’m talking about the old people who get this anyway. I’ve had this conversation a hundred times. No leader or politician has ever claimed we are trying to STOP the spread. It has always been about slowing it to keep hospitals going. Grandma will get it eventually and she will either live or die regardless of the icu availability. I know a hospital at capacity can cause deaths. But not the deaths everyone seems to think. We were never trying to save people who got covid.

The biggest thing I hope comes out of this event is that people like this as well as the media that touts their predictions lose what little credibility they had left.

I mean backlash as in non compliance. People are unhappy and complain online but that’s the extent of it. People have done as they were told.

It's not an automatic death sentence for the old no matter how much you wish it to be so.

But you understand that if there was a treatment or vaccine there would be no stay at home, quarantine or social distancing...correct?

I hope I dont have to spell that out for you
