Dr. Ezekiel Emmanuel, chair of the department of medical ethics at the University of Pennsylvania, predicted on MSNBC that the United States would have 100 million cases of Chinese coronavirus by the end April. He said this when full mitigation efforts were already underway and based his reasoning on exponential growth that gets trumpeted by the chicken littles of this board every day.

We're two weeks away from that mark and the United States doesn't even have 600,000 cases total yet. It's time to open the country back up and allow fate to take over. This whole shutdown has been a joke and was never necessary based upon what happened aboard the Diamond Princess.

It's time to stop pretending that this is a serious situation and get on with our lives.

“This guy was wrong with a hyperbolic claim therefore it’s all a lie.”

I’m confused though.

Weren’t you one of the ones saying that cases doesn’t equal infected, and the US actually had millions infected by February?

Look, even when we open back up, I still prefer to make decisions based on available evidence and try to maximize economic stability while minimizing disease spread.

Not just "Jesus take the wheel," and I'm Christian. God helps those who make smart decisions to help themselves.

Why we need rapid result, widespread testing.

Once that happens, it will be a lot easier to transition back into normalcy.

I bet those states without shelter in place orders are absolute dumpster fires! Dead people are littering the streets by now!

Oh I 100% agree. It’s just hypocritical to suddenly go back to pretending confirmed cases = total infected now.

So your logic is that just because we won't hit the extremely high mark that he came up with, that means that everything was just an overreaction.

So does that mean that because the Spanish Flu killed an estimated 675,000 people died in the US. No matter how many people die from this, as long as it is less than 675,000 that means it was all an overreaction.

I am amazed how many idiots cannot make the correlation between the steps that were taken and the reduced case numbers. The reduce case numbers would not have happened without the mitigation.

the goal here is to get the numbers low enough so that they can do contact tracing and mitigation once the country opens in targeted locations. But all you idiots want to just open thing back up.

Look until we have scientifically supported therapeutics, this is going to be a continued problem that needs to be controlled. morons...
