I agree with you, just didn't want to deal with arguments by posting something similar.
Eta: you obviously overgeneralized to make your point.

I got married last year. Wife doesn't work (she's in school), I didn't bother changing my status, so I was still getting cut like I was single and ended up receiving a rather large income tax refund. Also, being that she's in school I can get a 20 percent credit for all tuition paid. So, while she's costing me in other areas ( ) I actually make out well in the tax situation.
Oh I'm not arguing that some folks will get tax benefits, just trying to demonstrate that getting married does not automatically get you better tax treatment. That seems to be a pretty big misconception.

I don't understand it either but the level of hate you get is overwhelming.
You seem like a smart guy so why do you ignore the other side of the coin? Frankly, I don't care what you do but I think you should be happy. I'm also not gonna insult your intelligence based on this decision but there has been a shitload of judgement going both ways.

totally. The hate some of the CF have for kids is disgusting. I like kids, I just don't want one.
With that said, I have been called out on planes and bars for not having kids. Usually the 2nd question out of ppl's mouth when you meet them - how many kids do you have?
Posted on 8/4/14 at 12:09 pm to Hawkeye95
Most parents are so far up their kids arse trying to make them the next MJ or Einstein whatever. They're using their kids to make themselves look better/cooler. Kinda pathetic. Not all parents of course. These are the people who can't help but ask about your kids so they can judge you for having less successful kids than them or none at all.

Yep.
Selfishness will never lead to long-term happiness.

I don't hate anyone for having kids (unless I'm paying for them). If you can afford your kids, have as many as you want. I won't understand it, but I also won't question you openly (like so many do to those of us who don't have kids).

I'm just saying it goes both ways (see first post on this page).

The feelings do (go both ways), but people are a lot more open on TD than in real life. Have you ever heard someone openly question another person about how many kids they have or their decision to have kids? (In real life)
I'm not saying that it doesn't happen, but I've never experienced it.

frick yeah, I've done it often because I'm aware that some people should not have kids.

Chances are I said in a joking or passive aggressive manner.

this happens to me semi regularly. It happens to my wife weekly.

I usually ask a parent why they had them or why so many in response to the look of pity or disgust when I inform them that my wife and I are childless. First comes the pity, then when they find out its a choice we made, most of them seem offended or shocked that we didn't want them.
its fun to turn the tables and question why they had them. Especially if you do so in a skeptical manner.

I'm aware that it occurs to people without kids (happens to my wife and I every time we're around family), but to those with kids? I've never experienced this.

I always get the "why didn't you ever get married?" along with the sideways tilted head judgment... "don't you wish you would have had one of these?" pointing to whatever baby is nearest....
FYI: people get really upset when you laugh and say "frick no" as you order another drink

I'm guess that the fact this is even a topic is because this regret is real.
But damn you have kids to continue your fricking species!
Not having kids is like saying, frick it, let the lemurs take over.
JJ. People can do whatever else they want. I don't really care.
But seriously people without kids do seem to be pretty fricking narcissistic.
Just an observation.
No no you go ahead and go to Paris again. I'll make sure we have educated people around when you die to run the country and keep the economy going. My pleasure. Please dont let me interrupt your creme brulee.

I like to tell them I prefer to travel. And they often say, we travel all the time......we just went to disney/mexico. I say cool, you wanna see my pictures of africa? Or colombia? or india? or thailand? or new zealand? or my 6 trips to europe?

I'd be willing to bet those who choose not to have kids are typically more educated than those who do choose to have kids.
I don't think I've ever heard of some poor uneducated folks saying "we can't afford kids, we shouldn't do this".
