Luckily I can always just lie and say I have to work that night if it's something I don't want to go to

But I could see using kids as well to get out of those outings where you really don't want to go but don't want to upset a friend/family member.

I'm friends with a married couple who go to Metro and Republic every weekend...and I mean EVERY WEEKEND. They are mid-30s with a 1 year old and a 3 year old. They have more of a social life than I do. The grandparents take turns watching the kids. Their excuse is that the grandparents like taking the kids and they don't want to just sit at home doing nothing.

ETA: I should say "every Saturday". I think they are home Friday nights. Who knows.

i can see maybe once every few months doing this, but as a weekly lifestyle? Pretty selfish, and not good parenting. That's literally two nights of every week that you are incapable of being a responsible adult for a child in a possible emergency. When you have kids you have to grow up.

Exactly.

My kids get up at 6:30 and act like they had a shot of adrenaline. I get hungover too easily, so I stopped. Never went out that much anyway.

Pics of her.

Otherwise- long hair, don't care.

Over a decade ago I ran up on the thirty-something wife of a blimp pilot.

We don't go out every weekend, but my daughter's maw maws and paw paw always like to keep her if we have something to do.

We do the LSU home games like this. Take the kids to a couple cupcake games and make sure my parents know the schedule for big home SEC games. We are still home by 11 or 12 and go over for breakfast and get kids by 8 am. Balance and respect for the babysitters are important.

My husband and I stopped going out when our first was born...I went to one show after her birth and couldn't wait to get home. Never missed it...I like my time at home far more than going out. But to each their own I guess.

Guess I was lucky. My parents didn't go out with other couples or go on movie nights by themselves, or anything like that, after the children were born.

In fact, my mother put off her college education (she's a retired teacher) until all three of us were in elementary school.

We, as their children, were their life. We did things together. We went on day trips, summer trips, Six Flags, sporting events, the capitol in Austin. They talked to us, and taught us.

Well that isn't healthy either. A marriage can't solely survive on just focusing on your children. What happens when all the kids leave the home as adults? Nothing wrong with a married couple with kids still making time for themselves. It's all about balance.

You people that throw around the term "bar scene" are annoying. Of course married mid 30 year olds aren't going to Fred's or Reggie's. Would ringside at Sulllivan's be considered "bar scene"? There are places that one can hangout that isn't a "bar".

Im guessing they had kids really young? I think its a bit weird/trashy, no offense. I think there is far better use of their energy. Why not spend time with their kids if they have all of that energy?

My SIL had a kid at 18. She's now 35 and the kid is 17. Her and husband number 2 are either always working or always out. Kid's father is not in the picture, kid was essentially raised by my FIL and MIL. Kid is living with FIL and MIL now, and spends more time at my house than she does with her mother, my SIL.

It's a bad situation.

Yea that's not the best approach IMO to marriage and kids. Like others have said you need a balance. We try to go on a date night once a week, although it's difficult to do every single week. And by date night I mean grabbing dinner/going to a movie/stopping by a friends house for a couple hours. Not saying getting hammered and staying out until 1 am. Your marriage needs to come first, you will spend your entire life with your spouse (ideally) and your kids will only live with you for 18 years (again ideally).

being single as long as possible is the way to go if you have to run to the bar every weekend to get away from the kids.

Well no shite. If you feel you have to run to the bar every weekend to get away from your kids, you should just never have kids. I look forward to the weekends as I get to spend more time with my son. Yeas, I like to go to the camp sometimes, and it's nice to go to an event, but most Saturdays and Sundays are spent with him since I'm off to work before he wakes up and he's in bed for 7:15.

Now we are also not to crazy to let him sleep somewhere. My sister has an 18 month old that they have never left anywhere over night. I'll leave my 1 year old with the grandparents to go to a wedding out of town. But in over a year, that's been like 3 or 4 times. Athe least one of us is usually with him and I wouldn't give it up to be able to go out all the time, and I used to love the bar.
