re: Nest Thermostats and Protect systems
Posted by Tigerstudent08 on 12/4/15 at 1:05 pm
I bought two of the new ones over the weekend and they were $200 each. I looked online at other brands and they were roughly the same cost. The nest Protect is a little more expensive than other smoke detectors at $100 a piece, especially considering I need 4 or 5 of them. Still not horrible considering most conventional smoke and carbon monoxide systems run $50 each.

Anyone here have these in their house? They have really good reviews on Amazon and seem very easy to setup. Was looking for opinions here on whether you like them and if they are worth the additional expense. TIA

What I meant was this was very apparent to me, especially coming from someone who lives in New Orleans. Only AAs I saw were the workers at the Grand. It was like walking into a SEC fraternity

Just got back from a weekend there. One thing stood out to me, it's the furthest thing from a melting pot I've ever seen. Just an observation, wasn't a very difficult one.

I can't remember if it was this past Mardi Gras or the one before it when we were on the balcony at the Royal Sonesta and someone got shot right outside of it on Bourbon.

Your friends business stays open? Several bar owners I know with downtown establishments close for the entire weekend now. They say it's not worth the trouble. Pretty sad.
re: Black Friday deals- What deals have you found?

Thanks. I wonder why that one is so much cheaper than the other Britax Boulevard G4.1s. I'm assuming it's a previous model or something. Cheapest I can find it on Amazon is $264 but they don't have the same color.

This is a pretty good deal for Bose workout headphones on Amazon. They are very durable and sound great.

Golfers of the OT looking for new shoes, Dicks has the all blackFootJoy DNA shoes reduced to $93 plus tax right now. The price online is the normal $150 that most stores have them priced at. However, in stores the black pair (only black) are $93.

I didn't see anything on their ad as far as mowers go. However, I did see they have the NEST thermostat system at $250 which seems pretty good. Has great reviews online.

re: Mexican house workers

Damn. I had new cabinets and granite installed and in order to put the side wall backsplash up I need to have the outlet moved up about 6". Figured I would replace it with a GFI plug in to bring it up to code also. He told me he would do it for $75 per outlet. I guess that's not that bad if that's what an electrician charges. This guy does really good work all around Lakeview for several people I know. Very trustworthy guy that does quality work. Guess I just figured the cash payment would yield a cheaper price.
re: Chicago Police Shooting Video Released

They're going to burn the city down and cover this on the news 24/7 for a cop, who's already been charged with first degree murder, killing a guy WALKING AROUND WITH A KNIFE HIGH ON PCP AND DISOBEYING ORDERS. Yet you see zero protests and almost zero coverage when a guy shoots 15 COMPLETELY INNOCENT PEOPLE, INCLUDING CHILDREN IN A PARK! Seems legit...
Why do people allow themselves to be distracted so easily? News flash: police aren't the real threat, it's your own neighbors!

I can't wait to see how these protests change when everything becomes automated and they cut their labor force in half.

I had him ripping out sheet rock in the ceiling, taping and floating it. I also need him to change out some electric plug ins and move them up the wall a little bit. I try to do most things that I can but don't want to mess with electric plug ins and I don't know how to do sheet rock finishing.
I've used him in the past, great guy. Back then he was $20 per hour so I called him to fix my leaking roof. He did a great job but I was a little shocked at the total.

How much do you pay per hour for work around your house? I know there are other people here employing Mexicans to do work around their house. The guy I use does great work but $30 per hour cash seems like a lot of money.
re: Mass shooting in New Orleans; at least 10 shot in Bunny Friend Park

Only way to stop these acts of crime would be to barricade off those 3 areas and stop and frisk every black male between 16-35 years of age. Unrealistic, but true. The cops can't predict when these guys are going to do this, however you can most certainly narrow it down to who is going to do it 99/100 times.
