I know of a company that doesn’t pay for a meal when traveling before or during your flights.

So say you have a 6:30am flight and return at 9pm. So they want you to eat breakfast and dinner at home.

To circumvent these rules, people will stay an extra day. Or find more costly flights that allow them to travel at more reasonable times.

My dad is a lawyer. He caught an email virus one time so he never uses email. Snail mail and fax only.

That's what automation and document retention systems are for.

One of the divisions in our company decided to cut our millwright to 32 hours per week if they aren't in the field to save money. They in turn gave the millwrights a raise to offset the cost of the lost hours so they wouldn't lose money on their straight time paychecks. So now they are making basically the same thing and now the division is paying higher payroll cost when the guys are in the field and making overtime thus reducing their profit margins. They did not make changes to their bid sheets to offset the higher cost so the Project Managers are pissed because it brings down the net profit which is what they make their commission off of. Still shaking my head on that one.

"5S"
All you do is throw away spare stuff, only to come back in a month looking for it, realize you threw it away, and then have to reorder a new one.

We have engineers who print drawings and then proceed to pull out magnifying glasses to see details. I tell them all the time

1. you know you have a zoom feature on your computer right?
2. and you're an engineer, stop embarrassing yourself not knowing how to work your computer efficiently.

We have to enter the code to get printed copies on most printers where I work; it did reduce the amount of things people print. The corporation is moving to digital procedures and trying to get away from paper

I'm 35 and can go through a printed audit/assessment quicker than most 23 year olds because I know where the shite is that matters..I'm not scrolling through useless summaries for an hour
If you have to scroll a long time to find what you want, then the technology isn't being used correctly. Large documents should have a ToC and are searchable. If you know what you're looking for, it should take no longer than 5 seconds to find it regardless of how many pages.

true to an extent..I also like to compare old data/new etc. so having more than the three monitors I use now would be an issue..Its just honestly easier for me sometimes to print something, hilite and move on

A few things doesn't mean every department need giant printers/copiers. So, when you hear offices going paperless it doesn't mean no printers whatsoever. It means only the people who cannot live without them get them and it should be very few people.

I own my own business and one time (when I was younger and even dumber than I currently am) I was pissed at expenses and cut coffee service in my office.
That lasted two days and I was more pissed I had no coffee.

So they've changed all the network printers default settings to black and white and double sided. You can still change it, but that's the default.
Well what ends up happening is people print, walk to the printer and realize they didn't change it, so they go back and re-print.
So the result is....more paper is wasted.

This should be a short-term issue unless you work with some really low IQ people.

I'll bet meanwhile they still find the $$ to spend on "Diversity" initiatives.

That's also a cost saving initiative. They're trying to keep the lawsuits down.
