They probably wouldn't have a $1.400 mortgage.

A single person making 45k in 2023 shouldn't have a mortgage in the vast majority of the country or drive a $525/mo vehicle either.

I'm in my mid 40s and I've never had a $500+ vehicle payment.

Not commenting on the other numbers but lol at the fact you have a line item for Roku in the cost to “live” in America

I call that living.
not bad if that is your entertainment because you can't afford to do anything else

I googled average cost of x in America.

I’m just seeing this post, this is useless information. No one lives in “America” we all live somewhere that is way more specific than that, to which these numbers do not apply.

Bs. My car note and insurance isn’t that high, neither is my rent, my employer pays my phone bill and my gas.

I prob spend more on food but I throw in buying beer with that when I go to the store.

Anyone making less than $50,000 per year cannot afford to live in America.

I made about $45k in 2020 and did okay

Luckily, I've more than doubled my salary over the past few years but I could do it again on a strict budget.

Household income matters the most, there's a lot of people making 50-75k, but due to having a working spouse can afford a home.

I mean you can get a car and a trailer for pretty cheap.

Or you just get a semi decent vehicle and get a roommate or get married.

You can cut that mortgage in half if your house has wheels

I guess it’s all perspective but I feel we live a middle
Class life yet it takes a good $90-100k a year to float our lifestyle.

One decent family vacation coupled with once a week family dining out is easily $10k a year alone

How so? What numbers do you have

mort much less than $1000.
food is more like $1000/mth (family of 4)
internet is $250-ish
fuel is about $400/mth....but admittedly, i drive a lot.

my income is no business of yours. however, if you make $50K....you better get off of TD and get better at your job.

Or you can become a semi-truck driver and have a bed in the cab.

The problem is that you’re essentially saying that the minimum wage to live should be able to afford an average standard of living.
