We can’t force people to eat less or to move more, but we can sure as shite force Heinz to levelize the ingredients for ketchup sold in the US with ketchup sold in Switzerland… hint, ours has about twice as many ingredients
I buy Heinz Simply ketchup. Its on the shelf right next to the HFCS stuff.

High Fructose Corn syrup. sugar in everything, genetically modified everything. shite a chemist can’t pronounce.
In everywhere else in the world, you can’t put anything in the food supply unless you can prove it’s safe. But being pro big business arse kissing mfering whore idiots, decided to do it arse backwards and you can anything into our food supply unless it can be proven to be unsafe. (Now who is going to do this is completely unclear but it damn sure isn’t the government, and best I can tell nobody is doing it) So unless they include a well established toxin in the proposed food or additive, they can just throw it in the US Food supply.
If you travel out of the country to any EU country you will notice either about week you will start feeling better and start losing weight no matter how much of their food you eat.
The simple truth is we are all Guinea pigs.

Also the majority of our health care costs are wasted in the last year of life on people that have 0 quality of life.
People just don’t grasp how much money you can spend to still die in a shitty way.

How much more does it cost to get the stuff without all the toxins in it?

While I agree our food is crap, ever time I’ve been in Europe I walked almost everywhere I went. Miles more than I do here at home on a daily basis. Seemed like the natives were doing the same.

Some of this is due to the increase in walking you do there compared to most of the usa

Maybe a dollar or two. Minimal in the grand scheme of things, especially concerning what I eat.
There are always excuses...

Flew to Brazil a few times for work. In their airports, there are no trams or moving sidewalks to transport passengers from gate to gate. Everyone must walk. Also, in most cafeteria/buffet style restaurants, you pay for your food by weight, which will naturally encourage people to not overeat. Tipping is also illegal. 10% gratuity is included on the bill, and I always had excellent service.

Also interesting is the collaborative use of pesticides in conjunction with genetically-modified crops. Less people cook using pure ingredients now due to time constraints, driving them to food products packed with chemical preservatives. All of these systems have created a market in a space that historically did not exist. We're now seeing the health effects of a corporate-controlled food industry, no doubt in my mind.
Think about the sugar industry alone and how its lobby has swayed American foreign policy in regards to Cuba and Central America. Agribusiness is a monster in the US. Chemical companies in the US figuratively exploded after WW2 and they effectively lobbied to create markets in the food industry. Hell, think about the treatment of drinking water.
We are all slaves, chained to the wagons of American corporate capitalism, forced to eat what our overlords feed us.

Most Americans live on a diet of 95% ultra-processed "foods."

People don't cook or gather for family meals. They don't know how to prepare fresh products or how to prepare a balanced meal. As a result of not having set meals, eating is continuous throughout the day. This increases caloric intake and what they are eating is low value foods with high sugar and fat contents.
I've worked in the past with the sector that is in the most need of diet change and food education. They don't care and will choose the ease and convenience of a bags of chips or fast food over healthier option. The amount of money wasted on SNAP is astounding. I've seen it first hand.

Seed oils just feel like the latest cool thing to hate. I don’t buy the anti-seed oil line 100%.

Go to Canada and they follow UK standards for chocolate, US allows all kinds of filler that is unhealthy to increase profits.
Same for lots of other foods.
Gardening is healthier than a gym but we believe the gym is better

The American diet is meant to put you in an American hospital, for American healthcare, so you can buy American pharma drugs.

And to ensure that the companies can cut their “food” with enough chemical slurry that they can squeeze every last cent from every batch.
