My old was boss was a serious micro-manager. One day he took a vacation day to duck hunt. We had a conference call at 830am on a Friday, and sure enough he tried to sneak on the call while in the blind but forgot to mute his speaker.

I was on a conference call with a new headset when I got the urge to piss. Got up, walked to the bathroom, and tried to piss on the porcelain rather than in the water so as to keep the sound to a minimum. I had my off hand on the headset microphone, or so I believed. Walked back to my office and sat down as the host randomly called on someone for comment. The first thing the guy says is "I just want to make it clear that I'm not the person who just took a piss on this call."

After talking to a few guys on the call I found out the entire thing could be heard plain as day. Apparently I should have read the instructions on how to mute the headset.
I've gone to the bathroom many of times on the headset during calls.

I do use the Mute button each time and yet every time I fear that it's not muted.

I have SO much anxiety about sharing screens for fear that one day my shitposting and professional lives are going to collide

Yep, especially when I screenshot stuff to put it in emails. I used to always worry that I'd leave TD showing in a screenshot with some NSFW thread title.

I just bring my laptop to work now and only do personal stuff on here. Yes I know, it's tracked by IP Address, but we're just talking about stuff visible on your computer. I do that to avoid that fear.

Being able to pull them off from the golf course was not unusual back in the corporate days.

Last fall I was on a call and had an earpiece in listening and had to tee off. I shanked one into the water and yelled frick.

Someone one the call said there is no need for that language. Someone else said Fred must have hit his ball in the water again.

Conference calls and meetings are the practical alternative to work. Rarely do things get accomplished.

tOT baws, you have any great WebEx / Conference Call stories?

Everyone does. They suck, and are mostly a waste of time.

Just muddle through it like everyone else does. Listen vaguely for key phrases that might be important, browse TD in the meantime.

When I hear my name "I'm sorry, I was having a sidebar. Could you repeat that?" aka I wasn't listening

it was a few years ago, but i remember getting on a webex with 3 others and some guy who was sharing his screen accidentally shared the wrong screen, which was him shopping for lingerie.

not sure if it was for him or his wife?

the "OOPS! SORRY GUYS" came rather quickly on the call.

afterwards, i called another person on the webex and we both confirmed that we saw the same thing.

I thought there was no way they could possibly hear it. The flush, maybe, but not the rest of it. I got a text from one of the guys asking if it was me. I told him it was, and he said you could hear the piss hitting the toilet.

The headset wasn't cheap, and apparently it's very sensitive.

We have a guy that takes them from his boat while fishing. You can hear him cast. Birds chirping, the spin of the reel, the cork hitting the water. I make sure to tell him to mute his phone or invite me next time.

Now a days, I don't know why you would ever use your same computer for the conference call and for personal stuff while on a conference call. Get on your phone, tablet, or use a desktop for the conference call and your laptop for personal stuff, etc. Just playing with fire IMO.

The worst part about conference calls is people trying to talk over each other. Or when 3 people try to start talking at once.. then pause and wait for someone else to start.. but no one starts.. cringeworthy

Yeah, the person hosting the call usually doesn't have a clue how to keep it working smoothly. They'll sit there and let someone mumble in the background or put us on hold and fail to realize they can mute the participants themselves.

So good.

Have you seen email in real life?

The heavy breathing and pseudo-sexual grunt noises.

Not necessarily on a conference call per say, but things I notice when I'm on a call with a client.

Ugh. People talking in the background. Or someone driving through what sounds like a wind tunnel.
