For those that give a shite: 1) Expect doctors appts and procedures to be cancelled en masse. If you have a critical need to see a physician do it sooner than later. 2) If you currently take any medications that you MUST take daily refill them now. 3)If you have an elective surgery that you can live without for another 6-8 weeks consider postponing. I mean live with out here in the literal sense. Most importantly realize that healthcare as you know it may be different for the foreseeable future. We coddle american pts in so many ways. We are moving to a triage model in every sense of the word.
Had a CT scan Monday and a very large mass (5 cm x 7 cm x 2 cm) was found on my liver. Have a MRI waiting to be scheduled. Let’s get this crap in line quickly as possible so I can get it scheduled and get some sleep and not be up wondering what if all the time.

Im so sorry. That is probably weighing heavily on your mind coupled with all this craziness. Good Luck. Be a squeaky wheel to get your MRI ASAP.

There is considerable concern for supplies. We are counting all masks in every dept to come up with an inventory. Face shields are gone. Neither will be available anytime soon. Its a fluid situation but contingencies are being floated that are mind numbing.
My company is exploring concocting its own sanitizer using vodka. Not kidding.

Right after the press conference today people started discussing how the uptick in positive tests would be received. Most of us hoped that panic would subside because of a (hopeful) dip in the mortality rate, but some pointed out that people would most likely start panicking again.
We haven’t even made it to the uptick yet, and the panic is ramping back up.
We went from Jan 18th to Feb 20th averaging 69 tests a day to averaging 170 a day through end of Feb to averaging 665 a day March 1st - March 4th to averaging 1524 a day March 5th - March 9th. Other days in March still waiting on final numbers. The exponential increases of confirmed cases at least has a correlational relationship to exponential increases in number of tests performed.
We are about to greatly increase testing numbers per day, so we are going to see a large increase in total confirmed cases of various levels from asymptotic to extremely ill that may not all be newly infected or sick starting tomorrow or next week but just tested and confirmed next week instead of this week or even last week due to large increases in testing. It seems like responsible reporting would include this info up to testing numbers stabilizing. It doesn't take away from confirmed cases. It just makes t hard to compare daily or weekly increases while testing rates are quickly rising.

It says 100% mild but also lists 10 cases as critical. Math is hard.
I'd also like to point out that the only people who have been tested so far have been those who had symptoms serious enough to seek medical attention, and nearly all of them are mild cases. It is likely that there are many more untested cases with even milder symptoms than that.

I would bet that there are many more cases that are not “mild”. That’s just them trying to keep everyone calm.

What is considered ‘mild’? I know China said 80% of their cases were ‘mild’ ‘not severe’ but they considered pneumonia ‘mild’ unless the person needed a hospital bed.

You don’t call recovering at home mild?

We have a high number of febrile/respiratory/flu negative pts that can't be tested.
I had a feeling this was happening. I’m not surprised at all that no one is reporting this.
The official numbers just aren’t increasing like they would with exponential community spread. I’m sure every hospital has some of these patients that most definitely have the virus.
Try to stay relaxed jenn. No one is going to let our hospitals get over run. The reality that many Americans are going to come to grips with very quickly is that we will be quarantined at home if the hospitals can’t take anymore patients.
Then our biggest threat will be the muh flu morons who still don’t understand the problem.
