Is that saying heat and humidity slow transmission rate by 1-5%? That's how it reads to me.

So who’s gonna shut the casinos down?
On one hand we can’t be having that many people in one place, on the other hand they aren’t gonna forfeit that money.

You say putting people at a “slight” inconvenience as if there are thousands and thousands of workers that just got fricked out of paychecks because of all these closures and cancellations.

I think a lot of people are treating sports and music festivals as simply entertainment

They are realizing these are billion dollar entities that employ and feed families throughout America

Here in Paulding County, GA, schools were just closed indefinitely, though they're aiming to reopen in two weeks. The University System of Georgia, which includes UGA, Kennesaw State, Georgia State, Georgia Southern, etc., are all closed for at least 2 weeks. All schools will be going to online learning and will reevaluate in 2 weeks.

There are some parents of young ones pretty pissed...the county came out of nowhere with this and now parents are going to have to find child care or miss work. A lot of folks can't miss work without losing their paychecks, especially if they're healthy.

I give props to Brian Kemp and our local schoolboard for making the tough decision of erring on the side of caution, but some folks are in a real tough spot right now.

shite is crazy right now. Time for us to put our heads down and get through this shite best we can.

Had a talk with our daughter and SIL about our grandson. If one of them came down with this crap, there would be no way the wife or I and SIL's grandfolks could take care of our grandson.

We are almost about to shut any and all traveling down. That includes all stores. Our daughter said she will do any and all shopping for us. She knows, I know, this crap is not going away any time soon. If I contact it, I have a very little chance to make it. But if the Good Lord has other plans, I'm good with that, one way or another.

On a side note! There are a lot of young people here. Please take the time to talk with your old folks. See what they need.

I believe this is the important part...

quote:

One degree Celsius increase in temperature and one percent increase in relative humidity lower R by 0.0266 and 0.0106, respectively.

So remember R is how many people and infected person infected on average. If R is 2 then an infected person will infect 2 other people. Then the spread increases.

For every 1 degree Celsius increase the R is reduced by .02

So let’s say the temp increases by 20 degrees and humidity by 20%. The R would decrease by about 0.3, it’s not dramatic but combined with other measures (social distancing, etc.) it could make a big enough impact.

If the average temp goes up by 40 degrees, then R goes down by 2. That would basically knock this thing out.

I would tell ya that it would be a good time to pick up a good book and read it but from the tenor of your post I'm gonna guess that ain't happening.

Seriously, I think there's over reaction on both sides. I think there's a need to be smart but not a need to shut everything down. But then you have others that are over reacting to the over reaction and think the world's going to collapse because a few games are cancelled and a few schools temporarily closed. Typical of our world these days.

Hate to tell everyone on both sides, but the sun will continue to come up in the morning and set at night.

A few games? Y’all keep acting like it’s nothing. They’ve shut down all sports across the country. You know how many jobs are involved in that? It’s not just johnnys math teacher cancelling a weekly practice.

That is encouraging news, and could explain the slowing spread in China, obviously in combination with the drastic quarantine measures.

This will be interesting over the next few weeks.. All of these men and women that work for a living and keep things we take for granted running, now will have their children home from school for a few weeks minimum. How bad is this going to slow down the economy...?

We're in a unique position here because the federal government is not running lead on our national response. State and local governments are running lead. Businesses and corporations are running lead. Private professional organizations like MLB, NHL, NBA, etc. are running lead.

I think this leads to the feds playing a reactive roll. Given the consequences of all those other parties making relatively drastic decisions, I think the feds need to do the same. Not sure if that means halting the market for a bit, providing unprecedented federal aid, or what, but they absolutely have to react to what's happening.

When you lead from behind, you are often left with less options.

The average temp in Milan, Italy was ~40 and humidity near zero. Wuhan was also ~40 in February.

So we will see a 40 degree average temp increase here in Louisiana probably in June and and even higher jump in humidity. If that paper is correct the weather should frick this virus up.
