Is coronavirus airborne like measles?
Contrary to some online speculation, this does not appear to be an airborne virus in the same vein as measles or chickenpox, said Luis Ostrosky, professor and vice chairman of internal medicine at McGovern Medical School in Houston, Texas. “It’s a virus that travels in droplets. This is very good news. With an airborne virus, one person could infect the whole room.”

“With coronavirus, you need to be in close contact with a person,” he added. Health officials recommend “social distancing” in public spaces. “You would need to touch contaminated secretions to become infected, or to be within six feet of a sick person who is coughing or sneezing,” Ostrosky said. “Studies have looked at how far spit and little droplets fly, and that’s the magic number.”

It would be nice if there could be a test to see who has already had the virus unknowingly. This has clearly been here longer than most people realize and it may put people at ease to see how many mild or undetected cases there already have been.

Local doctor's offices are not testing due to the fact that people who show signs, but didn't travel out the country = no testing per the Fed gov. Sad part, the shite is here and one can get it without going out the country.

There are some studies they're concerned about indicating it's "small droplet" (I think) meaning it has more "airborne" attributes than regular droplet transmission. They've treated SARS and MERS with the 6 feet instead of 3 feet rule on that basis for the last 15 years or so, I believe. But I still don't think they really know.

I could be butchering the medical terminology, but I think it's believed to potentially be a more dangerous "droplet" transmission than a genuine airborne one.

Viking has done similar, I'm sure the others will as well.

I just realized the irony that smokers will fair better than vapers.

They've proven to be major carriers of the virus. It's a responsible step and 60 days COULD be a huge step in letting the virus run its course.

Does anyone know how many test kits are being pumped out now?

Maybe. It could also be significant overkill to declare that today. The dont need to cancel for 60 days today. Most things have been either 30 days or through the end of March even.

But given that airlines arent shutting down I dont think no cruises is going to be a huge step in letting the virus run its course.

The 60 days could also be so they can get their fleet completely sanitized. There's a lot of nooks and crannies in a cruise ship. That kind of cleaning and overhaul could take a lot of time.

I didnt disagree with anything. My comment was simply that it's a long time.

So I see yall have cultivated an angle to keep the hysteria going after the virus doesnt really do anything itself

My dad has come down with a bad lower respiratory condition in the past few days. He literally checks all the boxes for symptoms of this thing and is high risk. He tested negative for the flu (samples taken while he was in his car in the parking garage), but they won't test him for Covid-19 because he hasn't traveled abroad, which is mind-boggling. The earlier you know you have it, the better chance at treatments. He's currently holed up at home trying to ride it out.
