Dude I hope he’s ok. Have him drink lots of fluids.
Oh and that’s nuts. They said anyone who wanted to be tested would be tested. Bunch of liars. Although the doctors etc are following what they’re told I guess meaning I wouldn’t blame them.

The earlier you know you have it, the better chance at treatments.
But do not delay if his conditions worsen. Ride his arse to get to the hospital. Dads can be stubborn

That’s so absurd and it’s fricking embarrassing that’s how we’re handling this. Talk about a blow to american exceptionalism

Sad thing is his doctor is desperately trying to get him a test, but the state (TN) is saying no.

How long does it normally take the CDC to provide confirmation (confirmed or proved negative) of the presumptive cases?? I assume the likelihood is the presumptive cases will all be confirmed but so far none in Louisiana have been yet.

That’s what I’m saying — it’s the government people saying no. This has been stated about other people with docs trying to get their patients tested.

Normally I'd discount your story as anecdotal/incomplete, simply because it seems 3 weeks behind the times, but you hear similar stories everyday.
Assuming he really has all the symptoms and it's really a "you didn't travel" thing despite there almost certainly being wide community spread in this country - it's absurd
Also, we should be in a position where we don't need to ration tests on that basis. Everyone who has a fever and goes through the effort to get a test in this environment should be able to get a test performed. That can't be THAT many people. Millions of us will self select and opt not to test and/or not want to go through the hassle.

they won't test him for Covid-19 because he hasn't traveled abroad, which is mind-boggling.
Straight up, people should just lie about this if they think they have it and want a test.

Have they determined a reliable timeline for recovery? Is a COVID patient still contagious even after their fever breaks. Isn't that when most flu patients are no longer considered contagious.

his story is almost word for word exactly my experience as a HCP trying to get a test

Did you ever get your results back on the patient that you had to retest?
Posted on 3/12/20 at 8:36 am to LSU1018
we are supposed to be getting the panel back today

It’s been this way for a month now. It’s fricking insane.

If you do have corona, are you supposed to do anything differently than you would if you caught the flu? Besides putting more emphasis on quarantining yourself?
*this is not a corona is the flu post. just curious about if you're supposed to do anything differently treatment wise

Nothing else for you to do other than just stay away from others and treat it like the normal flu. If you have shortness of breath you need to go to the hospital.
There are different potential treatments for doctors to try though. Not sure if that’s what you are asking or not.

If more information was flowing about this perhaps these types of questions would have easily accessible answers but they are keeping far too much detail info close to the vest.
My daughter’s immunologist was complaining about the lack of case information being share between states at their level that would help guide decision making in their higher risk population. The specialists have no idea if anyone with certain disorders have contracted the virus and if they did what their severity level has been and what their potential treatment and recovery timeline was like. He was very frustrated with the CDC.

-flu medicine wont work
-if you have a fever, stay hydrated
-if you have trouble breathing and feel like you cant catch your breath, go to the ER, wear a mask if you have one/call in advance and tell them whats been going on

This is just fricked up. South Korea has tested over 230,000 people. As of yesterday morning, I think the US had tested something like 6,800 people.

That’s a shame bc my self quarantined FIL got tested yesterday in VN and the result came back in one day. And we keep hearing how great the medical system her in the US.
