Seriously people, I'm going to repost this until my fingers bleed.
Median incubation is 5 days. > LINK
COVID19 has been circulating unchecked for weeks before first death in Washington > LINK
Where are all the dead bodies? They should be piling up by now.
Please stop acting like selfish twats and calm the frick down. Don't visit your elderly family members for a little while. If you are elderly, have a family member go shopping for you and leave the groceries at your door.

It’s safe to say the LSU autograph session at the mall will be cancelled. I was really looking forward to that, but I understand. It’s part of the social distancing plan.

Supposedly the vaccine will take in excess of a year or more (maybe much more), so part of this whole mitigation is trying to keep the transmission rate slow enough that the medical system can get by in the mean time.
They have been trying to develop a vaccine for coronavirus for a long time. No reason to believe it'll be soon.

Could be sooner than you think

People and toilet paper. Ridiculous. I need tp Saturday while buying groceries and they only had one left. I use cottonelle but had to buy the last of the charmin. Also had to do without Clorox wipes that the wife cleans our countertops with. Morons.

This virus is in its infancy and you are asking where all the dead bodies are? We have 25 of them right now, with many in critical condition.
Right now the current estimates are a doubling time every six days if we don't take significant steps to curb this. If we assume approximately 650 cases (its probably in the couple thousand range at this point with our limited testing and the tendency for this to be asymptomatic). That means in a month we are looking at 20k cases in the US. If the number of current cases is actually closer to 3k currently, we are looking at 50k cases in a month.
This is not meant to panic, but to create an awareness that we all need to do everything we can individually to mitigate the risk and improve the situation. Whether that is reach out to our representatives and impress on them the importance of vigilance and manpower, or to make personal decisions about how we travel and who we interact with.

We can do both. There are 1039 cases in the US already. In reality, there are probably 10000.
There were likely a couple thousand a week ago. The point is that this has probably been circulating for longer than the public really thinks about, and that we're probably having people ignore their symptoms or treat it as another ailment (and recover).
I tend to agree with that, although I also think we should should shut down most events and social engagements (for as long as we can without truly serious economic damage) and follow all the practices being proposed - good cleaning habits, isolating the sick, isolating the elderly, etc.

Let’s be real. The 2016 flood thread helped keep people safe. No one is coming in this one looking To make a safety related decision with regard to their health.

Question for those that are all for the cancellations etc etc
If an almighty force could tell you covid-19 would kill "only" 50,000 people in the US this year, and years going forward, would you be ok with going forward without anymore cancellations and news stories?

I could be wrong, but infected people don't die as soon as symptoms present. A person can be sick for a week or two before succumbing. I think I've read that it takes time to move into lungs.
Has someone posted the average time between infection and death? Including the asymptomatic incubation period?

Agree.
There are 970 active cases in the USA. 960 of those are mild cases. There are 10 cases in the country that are serious/critical.
Like you said, the actual number of mild cases is probably upwards of 10,000. The real % of cases in the United States that result in patients in serious/critical condition is very, very low as of now... outside of a couple nursing homes.
ETA: where I'm getting these numbers: LINK

Not true. Because of this thread, I am now the proud owner of 4563 rolls of TP and a 55-gallon drum of sanitizer.

50,000 Americans aren't going to die from the coronavirus.
