In full disclosure, we were quarantining every RN, MD, RT EVS, Dietary etc. that came into contact with a known pt. The EDs were hit especially hard and we were potentially going to the contingency plan of other workers backfilling those area. I think part of this was to prevent impact on the hospitals. However, the CDC supports it currently and I suspect this will be imposed nationwide soon.

I wonder if they will cancel BR St Pattys Day parade?
Should people in their late 20s avoid the Mid-City festivities?

Yesterday at Walmart I saw multiple people wearing gloves and masks buying nothing but toilet paper and bottled water.

It’ll be my first game at the Box since 2012.
I hope I’m not being irresponsible. It’s just tough to figure out who to listen to in this time. Some people are ready to hole up in a bunker, and some professionals say to just take precautionary measures, wipes, sanitizers, etc.

Awesome. I think I can survive 12 hours over there without getting a death sentence...at least from this virus.

As cancellation of school, festivals, and parades is debated and enacted, maybe people should think about two people:
Wilmer Krusen
Max Starkloff
The Atlantic article

As the disease was spreading, Wilmer Krusen, Philadelphia’s health commissioner, allowed a huge parade to take place on September 28; some 200,000 people marched. In the following days and weeks, the bodies piled up in the city’s morgues. By the end of the season, 12,000 residents had died.
In St. Louis, a public-health commissioner named Max Starkloff decided to shut the city down. Ignoring the objections of influential businessmen, he closed the city’s schools, bars, cinemas, and sporting events. Thanks to his bold and unpopular actions, the per capita fatality rate in St. Louis was half that of Philadelphia. (In total, roughly 1,700 people died from influenza in St Louis.)

I am curious if testing does us any good now? We are past containment, we aren't even quarantining here now. Should we simply treat the sick? Is the minutia of getting the test approved a waste of resources? If flu swab is negative and CT has GGO, should we just assume positive and treat accordingly?
Widespread testing is absolutely necessary. We are being fooled into thinking we can get by without it because nothing bad has happened yet.
We need to identify the areas that have large disease burden and prepare them for an influx of patients. We need to know what patients in the hospital have the virus so we don’t waste resources (PPE, drugs, etc.) on them.
The idea of using CT scan is a good one in a crisis situation where you have a large influx of patients and not enough tests. I think we are too early for that. They need to fix the testing issue ASAP.

I agree with Chris as of today but he needs to be careful because there are 31 cases in critical condition that we don’t know the outcome of yet.

Have to say I really really hope this dude is overstating it.
Someone going with doomsday predictions on a Joe Rogan podcast? What a shocker.

this may have been discussed long ago in this thread...
If it's "just the flu", why isn't this alone enough to be concerned? There is no vaccine. No herd immunity as there is with the seasonal flu. People are quick to point out how many people die from the flu every year...a virus for which we heavily push vaccinations...and then completely dismiss COVID-19.
It seems like a logical conclusion to me that if this was "just the flu", I would certainly not want to spread it or tell everyone not to be concerned. Then again, im basing this off of Facebook comments on the Advocate and WBRZ..
That said, this thread, on average, has been the most reasonable and informative place for discussion.

There will be a vaccine just like h1n1.

FIFY
To date no one has been able to make a vaccine for the coronavirus family of viruses. For various reasons. However, there has never been this much research focused on the problem. I think you are probably right in the long run, but it’s no where near as simple as creating a new flu vaccine by moving some H’s and N’s around.
