Apparently I’ve acquired the stench of a nut job wishcaster in the past 2 weeks.
Remember the good ole days when you were considered part of the nothing burger group? I remember. Those were simpler times
I’ll have to look back because I don’t remember you “wishcasting”.

The push to increase testing in the U.S. for the novel coronavirus that causes Covid-19 has hit a new stumbling block: shortages of key chemicals needed to start up and run the tests.
In particular, one key product, made by the diagnostics testing giant Qiagen, is in dwindling supply. The chemical is used to isolate the virus’ genetic material, or RNA, so that it can be tested. Robert Redfield, the director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, told Politico, which first reported the story, that he is worried about the supplies labs have of the chemicals, known as reagents.

Holy shite
Are we sure this is professional writing or just a high school student meeting a word limit on a school paper?

“Currently, we have a total of six presumptive positive cases of coronavirus in Louisiana. While we investigate these cases, we cannot disclose any additional information about these patients at this time," Gov. John Bel Edwards said in a press release Tuesday night.
All three new patients are Orleans Parish residents, according to the LDH. One of them was diagnosed and hospitalized in St. Tammany Parish.
Here is everything we know about the six patients diagnosed so far:
One Jefferson Parish resident being treated at the VA Medical Center
One Orleans Parish resident being treated at UMC
One Orleans Parish resident being treated at Touro
Two Orleans Parish residents being treated unknown hospitals in Orleans Parish
One Orleans Parish resident being treated in St. Tammany Parish
The LDH said they could not disclose any other information on the patients.

Wafb link in another thread said that Bel Edwards said that 1000 kits doesn’t mean 1000 ppl can be tested. That it takes more than one kit per person.
Why??? Anyone???
Why??? Anyone???

Protocols dictate that a single negative (and in cases positive) test isn’t enough to clear you.
CDC metric requires 3 negative tests across samples from multiple days to be deemed cleared/recovered.

Kits aren't 100% accurate. A 2nd test is done to make sure that we get results right.

I am curious if testing does us any good now? We are past containment, we aren't even quarantining here now. Should we simply treat the sick? Is the minutia of getting the test approved a waste of resources? If flu swab is negative and CT has GGO, should we just assume positive and treat accordingly?

Thanks vol and gop
Jenn I thought they were testing now basically to end up bringing the percent of deaths down — more tests, more positives, hopefully not many deaths.
I’m so scared now for my nursing home people. We have 77 long term beds and 23 snf/short stay/rehab. I wonder when they’ll quit admitting to that (I could see elective hip/knee/etc surgeries not being done if the hospital space is needed).
I’ve worked there for 12 years and some of them I really do love. And they often have no one.

I’m of the opinion that it does.
You may not be able to hope to prevent community level spread at this point but you can certainly still postpone it.
I think it was cowardly and lazy for Sacramento to give up on it already, with I believe 10 cases when they made the call.
I also believe it will be correlated with a spike of mortality compared to other metro areas as they follow the Italy model as opposed to the SK model.

I wouldn't be surprised if they do like a lot of universities are on the brink of doing and just going all online for the last part of the semester. I know A&M, UT, Texas State, and University of Houston are seriously considering it. I wouldn't doubt that it happens to a lot of major colleges.
A&M has already canceled the first two days of class after spring break.

This is to nobody in particular:
Miss TT08 and I will be going to Louisiana tomorrow. We scaled down Spring Break travel plans, so we are just going east for a couple of days. We are going to the LSU baseball game tomorrow and then taking a day trip to NoLA the next day to enjoy the Quarter and take in some sights.
I assume businesses and restaurants are all still up and running? Should I trust that the people at Cafe du Monde don’t have the virus?

My kiddos at Ole Miss and fb pages which have been great for General OM info have parents FLIPPING out. That does no one any good.

Watching the people flip out is the best thing about this whole outbreak

How has no one here caught this yet?
Btw, I know I mentioned my firm told us we all had to work from home for two weeks. The immediate reversed it but they told 5 people they had to work from home for two weeks.
They also told multiple other teams the entire team had to work from home. I think they’ll start rotating.
Social distancing is the term for it. So if someone in the office gets it, it won’t get everyone at once.
It’s weird.

I don’t think that you can trust that anyone doesn’t have it. I mean tourists that came from who knows where touching who knows what — money, chairs, napkin holders, you name it.
That said, if you’re younger and healthy, gonand wash your hands and bring sanitizer for when you can’t.
I’d buy a plane ticket if I knew that where I want to go would be up and going everywhere.
All of that said, I’m no expert by any means. Just trying to be reasonable.

My logic at the game is to sit away from everybody. Eating at a restaurant anywhere is a risk at this point. I don’t plan on hugging random people or shaking hands in the Quarter. I’m just ready to get out of here and escape home for a couple of days.
