I’m not freaking out at all. I am very prone to colds/sore throats during these months

If i start getting feeling achy, feverish, etc then I will consider maybe getting checked out

This entire thing is the media and doomers wet dream and they are fanning the flames. I stand by my prediction that this situation will have fewer deaths than 2009 H1N1.

A team of doctors did an AMA on reddit and here are some highlights:

https://www.reddit.com/r/Coronavirus/comments/fdf5fq/we_are_a_team_of_medical_experts_following/fjh52fw/

quote:

We are learning more and more about the full spectrum of illness rapidly.

Some people are truly asymptomatic - they test positive and are infected with the virus, but really have no symptoms at all. There are a few examples of this. I like this one, where 2 out of 114 people who returned from Germany from Wuhan were found to have the infection, but they did not have symptoms: LINK

Of course, we also know that some have very severe symptoms, require Intensive Care Unit-care and sadly succumb to their illness. Then there is a large spectrum of illness in between. The interesting thing is that as we see diagnostic testing rolled out (e.g. South Korea), there is a growing appreciation that mild symptoms are actually rather common. Currently the estimates are that about 80-ish% of people will have a milder course of illness, but I think as we learn more about the infection this proportion may grow a bit.

What does a mild infection look like? Perhaps a low-grade fever and a mild cough for a few days. Currently, in many countries, people with mild symptoms are still being diagnosed in a hospital setting and then getting sent home as there is no reason to keep them in hospital...they clinically well enough to recover at home.

Carl Goldman, Diamond Princess passenger with covid-19, his blog: https://www.hometownstation.com/santa-clarita-news/editorials/

Mark Jorgensen, Diamond Princess passenger with covid-19 (no symptoms at all), his Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/mark.jorgensen.144

Nobody that contracted H1N1 was asymptomatic or had a mild case.

For the most accurate stats, South Korea, a modern healthcare system with a strong jump on diagnostic testing: 6,593 cases | 27 serious | 25 critical | 42 dead
Serious-critical-death case rate: 1.4% (I'M AWARE THE SERIOUS CASE NUMBERS GO UP, BUT SO WILL THE TOTAL CASES)
Fatality rate: .6%

Now what should we do?
- Anyone that works in an assisted living facility or nursing home should be tested and if positive should stay home until testing negative.
- People with COPD / underlying lung issues / anyone especially susceptible to pneumonia should work from home if possible and avoid large gatherings.
- Anyone presenting with flu-like symptoms should be flu swabbed and if negative, should be tested for covid-19.

Now back to your regularly scheduled fear mongering.

Sounds like you don't have it if you have no fever and no cough.

Is it true that CDC is reporting a marked decline in flu transmission (believed to be because of social avoidance/hand washing/etc.) - if so, that's pretty cool.

At the docs office and prob 20 people in waiting and not a single person nor staff wearing a mask.

There is a dude rocking some jorts, tank top, and flip flops... wondering what he’s got

Just overheard the staff say “they were called to an emergency meeting, they will be seeing people in a second”.

Um.

It’s about to blow the frick up. US and Europe have had community level transmission for weeks now.

When the testing situation gets unfricked the case numbers will shoot up.

Yea but wait until we see it spread outside of China
Yea but wait until we see it have a similar mortality rate outside of China
Yea but wait until we have more testing

It seems like the prognosis for it not being that bad increased after each of those items.

China, Italy and Iran have really fanned the fear.

It is still amazing SK is sitting a 0.6% mortality right now. Iran is at 2.6%, Italy 4.2% and China at 3.7%.

Germany ranks 5th for infections with 0 dead.

40 cal (S&W) ammo: 410%

Interesting that .40 is blowing away everything else. Is this from dudes who bought a single .40 Glock/SA/SW in the 00s and are suddenly realizing they haven't had rounds for it in a decade?

Notable too because Germany has a fairly aged population.

Their percentages are much better than here... what, around 140 homegrown cases at this point and 11 deaths.

Agree if you’ve never been to Asia and/or ridden the subway in a major city over there, you have no freaking clue... it’s astonishing and prone for disease transmittal. The reason why masks have become a fashion statement and worn year round.

Is no one really taking about the fact that Trump just signed off $8.3 billion to combat Coronavirus? Is he part of the MSM scare now? Is the threat now respected more among his supporters? Is it a good move, bad move etc... I'm legitimately curious to hear some discussion. I'm generally in the middle, not pushing either side. IMO it's a real danger, but also not a doomsday scenario.

That $8.3 billion is up from his initial proposal of $2.5 billion. Trump and the Republicans went from thinking $2.5 was enough and scoffing at Dems for wanting more to more than tripling it in less than a week. Yet some people think this isn't serious?

Guys....I woke up yesterday morning with a pretty bad sore throat and I feel like it is morphing into a bad cold.

I’m in California where the virus is probably all over the place. Is there a chance I might have it or does it sound more like just a seasonal head cold?

It's refreshing to hear that some people get it and don't even know it. It's also terrifying b/c these are the people walking around and potentially infecting others. Unless these people are somehow not contagious, they are most likely the ones spreading the virus b/c at least the sicks ones stay home.
