All this shite "closing" and "don't go to work", "shut down the schools"....yet we don't give two fricks about the flu and go about our daily lives like any other... shits getting old quick. 95% of the people had no more symptoms than they felt they had a bad cold, allergies, or a MILD case of the flu. Man we are so easily driven by media and fear. Lord help our ignorance. Yes a lot of us is gonna get it. Yes more people probably have already had it and gotten over it without even knowing what it was. Guess what......its like the flu we probably get it again next season. May have in the past and don't even know it. Yall stop and go your arse to work and school. Eat a handful of dirt build your immune system and stop whining.
It’s a worldwide media conspiracy

The fact that we are going nuts over this nothingberger is freaking insane.
A .5% mortality rate is not a nothing burger.
It means people in your community and broader social circles will likely die from this if the spread is significant. Now it does mean that healthy middle aged people shouldn't panic, but a lot of other vulnerable people are at risk and our precautions can literally help save some of their lives.

People in America are going to be shocked at how fast this thing will spread and how many people this will kill.

I chucked last night when I saw a “journalist” who was 300lbs overweight terrifying people about the coronavirus
A virus they likely won’t get, that likely doesn’t kill you even if you get it, is very worrisome to him and others, but being a complete obese fatass that is pretty much certain to kill you one day is of no real panic to people
America, frick yeh

It would take 50,000-100,000 deaths to be “shocking”
You really think that’s going to happen?

People that are well educated and routinely make decisions without emotion are taking pretty drastic measures. And it doesn’t have anything to do with the media. Large universities closing. Profit driven companies working from home. Etc.
All these people are panicked by the media?
Or are they objectively looking at the numbers and see the threat?
For every person that truly is panicking there is another in denial.

If the flu didn't exist and it suddenly showed up for the first time and people wanted to take serious measures in an effort to keep it from killing thousands - would that really be irrational?

I’m not saying it will, but do you have a good reason that it won’t?
Even at 0.1% mortality you are looking at those numbers easily. We are very early in a long process.

I totally get what you are saying, however these same institutions cave to twitter threats as well from very small groups.
I am pretty sure Civil War statues started the Corona and it is transmitted by the OK hand gesture. It would have been much worse if not for Kapernick complaining about the Betsy Ross shoes.

What about the multi-billion dollar corporations instituting mandatory work from home policies?

It’s a valid point. But no one is putting pressure on them.

Yes, by definition. The media panic has affected them in a drastic way.
My brother is a smart dude. We get along really well. We are on totally opposite sides of this. He's telling me he's prepped and Louisiana work and schools will be shutdown and remote in less than 3 months.
He's also saying you can't believe any government numbers OR the media, yet he's throwing all these mortality rates at me "from his own research"
Every time I tell him the sample size on the data is too small for this level of hysteria he blows me off saying all the numbers are way higher than being reported and that it's going to kill anywhere from 500,000-1mil people in the USA THIS YEAR. He is literally convinced.
We have been at this for a week now back and forth. And he's a smart dude.
So I sent him this:

Is no one really taking about the fact that Trump just signed off $8.3 billion to combat Coronavirus? Is he part of the MSM scare now? Is the threat now respected more among his supporters? Is it a good move, bad move etc... I'm legitimately curious to hear some discussion. I'm generally in the middle, not pushing either side. IMO it's a real danger, but also not a doomsday scenario.

Most jobs should be work from home at all times if possible

Tell me a scenario where it doesn’t
I think making an total mortality predictions is silly but I can’t understand why you think we are immune to this problem.
If you’ve followed this thread from the beginning you would know it’s been filled with statements like...
Yea but wait until we see it spread outside of China
Yea but wait until we see it have a similar mortality rate outside of China
Yea but wait until we have more testing
Now it’s, yea but wait until it kills 100,00 people in the US

So with all the hand washing reminders, it made me think of something I've always wondered about.
Ok, you take a shite, wipe, etc. Now before you wash your hands, you're pulling up your pants, zipping your fly, buttoning, belt, etc.
Aren't all of those now contaminated? Maybe we need to go bidets here. Everything you touch between your dump and the sink has got shite traces.
