I wouldn't say I'm at the opposite end of the spectrum, but I don't think about as much as most people who have posted about it so far.
I wash my hands every time I use the restroom and pretty much anytime I eat. That's about it though. I'm not a fan of hand sanitizer.
I guess I just look at it like germs are everywhere and there is no way to completely remove it from your daily routine. In my head I think I am helping build my immunity up. Whether that's true or not is another discussion.
I definitely don't judge those that take more measures than me though.

unique combination of factors that Singapore brings: a top-notch health system, draconian tracing and containment measures, and a small population that’s largely accepting of government’s expansive orders.
Singapore was aggressive out of the gate and has continued to be. It was one of the first countries to impose restrictions on anyone with recent travel history to China and parts of South Korea. It has a strict hospital and home quarantine regimen for potentially infected patients and is extensively tracing anyone they may have been in contact with.
It’s charging a couple who gave false information on their travel history and taking away residency status from a person who breached his quarantine, among other punitive actions.
Singapore used its early infections to establish an advanced contact tracing system.
It’s now using a new serological test developed by Duke-NUS Medical School that can establish links between infected cases, which will allow authorities to map out the chain of transmission and therefore try to break it.
A historically “very strong epidemiological surveillance and contact-tracing capacity” in Singapore led to a high detection rate initially, according to a yet to be peer-reviewed study published by researchers at the Harvard University.
Singapore has been able to prevent community spread. I think we are past that point. So a Singapore scenario appears to be out of the question.

I should have stayed in Singapore instead of flying back...
Spoke with our Director of Risk earlier and they are planning scenarios and speaking with other organizations to decide what our moves would be...

Four out of five Americans surveyed think governments should quarantine entire cities if there is an outbreak of the new coronavirus known as Covid-19.

Yeah unless it’s their city. Way too many baws that would get into shootouts with anyone telling them they can’t leave the city

What was the last major city shut down? Boston after the bombing? That lasted like a day and a half and people got pissy. There would be serious pushback against any restrictions on free travel in the USA.

Why? Again this isn’t the bottom for these stocks, you will have the opportunity to get them cheaper, so just why?

Tried to point this out earlier when the first guy asked “what we buying” right after it was posted that the DOW was up 200 point pre-market. Was downvoted with haste.

This may be a stupid question... but I wonder how many of the people who have died so far in the USA have been smokers? Either currently or at some point in their lives? Lots of old people nowadays have smoked at some point in their lives.
It's a disease that attacks the respiratory system. Smokers have to be much more susceptible than non-smokers, right?

Dow seems to be falling a bit on the news of the new deaths
Silly

I’m sure they are, but I doubt it’s as pronounced an effect as you are insinuating.
I feel pretty confident you being a casual smoker 2 decades ago has little effect on your odds.

Not to make a game of it, but just want to get a feel of where people in this thread see this headed over the next few days. If you had to choose, by end of day Friday how many US deaths due to Coronavirus will be reported:
A) 1-5
B) 6-12
C) 13-24
D) 25+
Only two people answered, and both said A.
We now have 6 deaths and it’s only Monday.

Guessing that means we didn't care about your question OR results.

I think you are going to see the majority of people quarantine themselves when shite hits the fan.
There comes a point when you have no choice, that’s the only way to slow the virus. Unless there is so other idea I’m not aware of?

I grew up in a household that smoked like a freight train. I personally never have. But I imagine that if what you thought was true actually was, it’s not just the former smokers who would be at greater risk. Not to mention, the things that tend to hit smokers, like lung cancer, also tend to have a genetic predisposition involved. Not sure such exists with the virus.
