You realize the vast majority of healthy people who get it won’t need a hospital right?

Read some of the actual reports from healthy people who got it in Seattle. If it wasn’t contagious they wouldn’t have missed work, just downed some DayQuil.

Makes me wonder if this virus has been over here longer than we though. Like (and I’m guessing) it could have come here late last year and those who got sick from it just thought they had a cold and got over it without ever going to a doctor.

Absolutely, but if it keeps spreading in hospitals and nursing homes, among the elderly population, that's still a problem.

I know y’all started following the story in the past 3 days. But he was one of the ones that correctly predicted this a month ago

Why? Because this is exactly what happens during a pandemic. Everyone with even a passing knowledge of it is aware of it. And extensive studies were done to quantify impact here in the US.

It’s not panic time yet or is it certain it will ever be, but he didn’t “wishcast” into existence the Italians pulling medical personnel out of retirement to expand on surge capacity or setting aside an entire motel complex in Washington to isolate victims who are ill but do not require full hospitalization.

Right now? Absolutely not. But we will quickly reach the tipping point for what our healthcare system can handle.

It’s happening in Italy and South Korea already in 2 weeks. What do you think will happen in 2 months.

I’m open to other theories like thinking the virus will slow down when it’s warm, maybe we develop a vaccine or new treatment. Those are all valid scenarios. But “continuing like we do” isn’t going to be an option when we run out of ICU beds and ventilators.

I don't know why people downvote this.

I've always been anal in flu season about wiping everything down like grocery carts, tables, etc. A lot of that is because I have toddler that licks everything.

Jan 15 is the earliest it jumped to the US. We don’t know the exact date.

Those who are dying now became infected early Feb

Yes, I just learned about this. I was wondering why the market tanked last week and I finally found out 3 days ago.

read an article that India hasn't been forthcoming with data. The US and others have actually essentially been using spies to mine data regarding the virus in INdia.

That we know of. Considering the vast majority of people who get it never have symptoms worse than a common cold, there is no way to verify someone didn’t bring it in earlier without knowing they had it.

So the 90,000 infected is only confirmed cases.....

And around 3100 are dead.

Are they accounting for those who don't report that they have it and just get better on their own???

Wouldn't that drive the mortality rate down????

The same goes for those that died but it wasn't properly attributed to the virus or those that died without being diagnosed.

Or, you know, we just live our lives like we do around the flu. There's nothing to support mass quarantines right now.

It's certainly not a harmful idea for people to limit their travel and interactions as much as they reasonably can. I travel a lot for work, but much of it is flexible, so I have been able to avoid travel for the last month. I have 3 young kids, so I'd prefer to be proactive when possible. I assume my case isn't unique.

I read that someone had sex with a bat. I think there was a thread about it last week.
