In news from China... Spoke with a friend this morning who let me know that media there is once again claiming that the virus came from the US and that they are stating 10k deaths in the US

So that is two friends in different cities that have given the same info.

The misinformation is pretty solid.

No, that was social media.

Scientists theorized (and have continued to refine the theory) that it came from bats due to a large genetic similarity. They have since refined the theory that it was in bats and then passed into an intermediary species before jumping to humans (perhaps pangolins but they aren't sure).

Of course it is. It's needed, especially when you've done a poor job early on, done draconian things that disrupted social life (even if for a good reason) and want to save face from pissed off citizens.

"See, America has a bunch of deaths too. It's not just us."

People seem to think that China doesn't need to play political games because they're an authoritarian government. Look at Hong Kong; obedience to authority only goes so far if a lot of people are pissed off.

I'll see what I can find. My wife teaches Radiology and she was telling me about it from one of the industry pubs she receives.

For those wondering, SARS-COV-2 is the virus and COVID19 is the illness it causes.

If you disagree, why not use plain english point out the perceived fallacy rather than defaulting to sarcasm or insults. Not every statement in this thread is intended as a slap at you or Volvagia. Some dispassionate discussion would improve the quality of the thread, if you have any interest in doing that.

Considering the comments in the last few pages I thought it was obvious his post was incorrect. I'll clarify -

The oral tests do work. A batch of oral tests had a faulty reagent and were recalled, but the test itself is fine. It's what the CDC has used for the 426 tests it has run so far.

The CDC is still running tests as they're submitted. They're not finding enough confirmed cases to satisfy some in this thread. This has been a recurring theme for a month.

Thanks, I learned something. The last I had seen suggested that oral tests had a high false negative rate.

I'll be happy if the confirmed cases remain low, but the number of only 426 tests that was given yesterday seemed very low to me. As international case counts rise, it seems prudent to test more on clinical grounds and not just rely on exposure history. Maybe CT findings will be useful to direct more testing in hospitalized patients.

This isn't at all concerning:

"CDC immunization chief, Nancy Messonier warns "disruption to everyday life may be severe" from coronavirus in the US. She told her children over breakfast: "Right now, we as a family need to be preparing for significant disruption of our lives."

When I say oral, I mean a saliva and/or nasal swab that is run through a RT-PCR test. As best I can tell, it's what everyone in thr world is using, so if ours don't work, no one's does.

Yeah, sure she did...

I’m assuming her children are under the age of 10 being they have breakfast together... And she sat down and spoke to them like they are adults, scaring the shite out of them. I have no doubt she is the spitting image of a liberal college professor.

God, the virtue signaling in this country is ridiculous.

I don't know her political affiliation but her statement, along with her position at the CDC is alarming.

I knew you were in this one

Per Volvagia, any doctor or hospital can get a test done. This seems like conspiracy hogwash.

but didn't realize that in the one Slackster was quoting

quote:

Yes, because the oral tests don't work. If the oral tests don't work than any test works as good or better.
