German pre-print : "Association of contact to small children with mild course of COVID-19."

Something I've been hoping to see once all the talk about T-cell and cross-reactivity started circulating.

quote:

To test this hypothesis, a survey among 4,010 recovered COVID-19 patients was conducted in Germany. 1,186 complete answers were collected. 6.9% of these patients reported frequent and regular job-related contact to children below 10 years of age and 23.2% had own small children, which is higher than expected. In the relatively small subgroup with intensive care treatment (n=19), patients without contact to small children were overrepresented.

More research definitely needed on this front.

Anybody addressed the deaths of several kids in Florida yet? Of course, it’s a small number; but a little unnerving when you can’t pinpoint a reason why these kids drew the short straw......

Huh?

5 kids under the age of 18 have died in florida. Not sure for florida, but 20 kids died this year from the FLU in Texas.....

F
I
V
E

That is statistically zero

ETA:

Through only week 5 of flu season, 7 pediatric flu deaths had occured in florida. So no, I am not worried about something less deadly than the flu in children

quote:

This now brings the number of flu-related child deaths to seven so far this season.

We are in week five of the flu season and the Department of Health says there were notable flu increases all across the state and we’re expecting those for several more weeks.

Is COVID-19 Creating a Generation of Heart Failure Patients?

"In one of the new studies, scientists at the University Hospital Frankfurt found through cardiac imaging that patients recovering from COVID-19 continued to have problems with their cardiovascular system weeks and even months after their diagnosis. Out of 100 German patients, the study found that more than three-quarters—with a median age of 49—displayed signs of cardiac abnormalities. And nearly two-thirds had ongoing heart muscle inflammation. Furthermore, neither their history of hospitalization nor any underlying heart conditions appeared to be a factor."

Yeah, again......we have seen everyone say that kids aren't at risk. Statistically, I would agree. But this last girl seems to have been completely healthy, so interested to know if there's more to this and if the same sort of incidence has been seen elsewhere.

Sure if you are young and healthy there is a good chance of just a cold. Now on the other side of the fence, not so good.

No doubt that folks of certain age and or preexisting conditions struggle greatly with this virus. I was hospitalized for over a week so I can personally attest to that.

With that said, the government is overreacting to the rapid increase in positive cases. We are testing folks at an incredible rate now so of course we are gonna see lots of positives. I am ok with wearing a mask at Walmart etc but shutting down bars and the like is dumb. New Orleans for example won't let you buy alcohol to go. Just don't restrict businesses.

This is all people are saying. This.

when you add in statistically it covers your next sentence

But this last girl seems to have been completely healthy

Everyone who says the first sentence gets the second part. Kids are at risk of all kinds of things.

German pre-print looking at effectiveness of nonpharmaceutical interventions.

Finds that rates changed before interventions (banning mass events, closing schools and day cares, and "lockdown") were enacted.

Voluntary changes in human behavior (respiratory hygiene, distancing from strangers, etc.) likely had an effect before any of the mandatory interventions were put into place...

Pretty sure that's going to be a common theme.

I said a while back that this pandemic wasn't going to be over until we were able to treat this illness the same way we treat the flu. No 14 day quarantines, just go home when you are sick, come back without symptoms. This seems even more true now.

My question is, what quantifiable metric do you think will allow this to happen?

cfr? hospitalizations? death rate? %+?

IMO...

The moment the Government stops incentivizing Covid19 is when Health professionals begin to treat it like the flu.

So to answer your question.. the metric is the money.

We would need the media and politicians alike to find a way to communicate that there is “in fact” an acceptable risk that is higher than absolute zero. That’s the only way we can even discuss a quantifiable metric.

Can anyone in this thread point me to a list of US Covid-19 deaths by age group, particularly deaths 0-18 years? I can't find anywhere that has a current straightforward stat.

Are you referring to the 9 year old?

I’m not being ugly but she was overweight
Also, from the story it sounds as if she may not have had a stable home life which can affect a child’s health

Sometimes people’s bodies just can’t fight off a disease or virus, it’s terrible when it happens to kids

She did have a beautiful smile, I hope she is at peace with her Dad

Sweden Unveils Promising Data as Cases Fall

Preprint with connections to Mayo Clinic indicating decreased SARS 2.0 rates in individuals with recent vaccinations.

From abstract:
quote:

We find that polio, Hemophilus influenzae type-B (HIB), measles-mumps-rubella (MMR), varicella, pneumococcal conjugate (PCV13), geriatric flu, and hepatitis A / hepatitis B (HepA-HepB) vaccines administered in the past 1, 2, and 5 years are associated with decreased SARS-CoV-2 infection rates, even after adjusting for geographic SARS-CoV-2 incidence and testing rates, demographics, comorbidities, and number of other vaccinations. Furthermore, age, race/ethnicity, and blood group stratified analyses reveal significantly lower SARS-CoV-2 rate among black individuals who have taken the PCV13 vaccine, with relative risk of 0.45 at the 5 year time horizon (n: 653, 95% CI: (0.32, 0.64), p-value: 6.9e-05).

How long is it going to be before everyone can acknowledge that the Swedes got this right? They are done with Covid and are moving back to normal life. Meanwhile we are wringing our hands about whether we can educate our children. Fauci and the other so called experts in this country should be tarred and feathered.
