My most recent vaccination was meningitis when I went to grad school, but before that was Hep A & B...maybe having those over a decade ago will/have help(ed).

I never realized, and dont think most people do, that as adults we lose our antibodies to most of our vaccinations we had as children

When I had my blood draw when I started in healthcare 5 years ago, my body showed no IGG antibodies for Mumps, measles, rubella, or varicella

So i was certainly happy to get the boosters

Twitter Thread

"Moderna’s Dr Stephen Hoge says in non-human primate study of #COVID19 vaccine, data 2 days after challenge with live virus “starts to look like sterilizing immunity” - ie prevents infection completely, not just manifestation of disease (per Moderna call now)"

"Moderna’s Hoge on #COVID19 vaccine safety: “Based on the data we have it’s reasonable to assume there’s not going to be vaccine-enhanced disease.”"

The first person that I know to die from COVID passed this morning. Apparently it had caused a lot of scarring in his lungs which greatly impacted his lung function. Very sad.

Not sure what this means.... ?? Can someone explain what "vaccine-enhanced disease" means.

Even at 61 I am a nerd and I like learning new stuff...

We are going to find issues from this virus for years

One good thing that can come from this is a nationwide push for healthy lifestyles

Maybe being more cleanly but I don’t know about healthy lifestyle changes. Americans are still going to continue to get fatter and fatter.

We are testing folks at an incredible rate now so of course we are gonna see lots of positives.

The positivity rate of tests is significantly higher than it was previously, so more testing is not the reason for this.

It means getting sick from vaccine.

Are you referring to the 9 year old?

I’m not being ugly but she was overweight

Yes, I haven't seen a full-body image of her, but the ones I did see, she really didn't appear overweight to me. Not like the "perfectly healthy, no pre-existing conditions" 22-year-old CNA a while back. She were FAT.

varicella

What if you've actually had chickenpox? Any studies to indicate the impact of that?

I’ve been thinking of getting an MMR booster. Any reason why I shouldn’t?

Pretty sure they are referring to ADE (antibody dependent enhancement)

The idea behind a vaccine is to stimulate the body produce antibodies. However, it is believed that there are situations called AED that instead of preparing the body to fight the virus better actually prime the body to over react when you encounter the virus. So then the response is worse than the virus and you have a bad outcome.

This has happened with other vaccines such as dengue vaccine and has been seen in coronavirus animal studies. It was also seen in SARS1 and MERS.

It’s the main reason why some people think making a vaccine will be very difficult, not because we don’t understand vaccines or how to make them effectively.

We just don’t completely understand ADE. And it’s one of the only reasons it takes so long to develop a vaccine. It usually doesn’t show itself until phase 3 trials.

Cases dropping across Aus, Sweden and the US.

Are we starting to see herd immunity or too early for that?

Guy I know from childhood has been in the hospital for about a week. At first he was posting on FB and said he was responding well. No updates since four days ago, which doesn't sound good. He has several comorbidities, including diabetes and damaged immune system from cancer treatment.

Absolutely not. What I suggest every adult do, is get their physician to take a blood draw and test for IGG level for all main viruses, and get boosters for all where they dont show immunity any longer

Good thought. I may not have the time to do that first, though. There's no adverse potential to getting the booster if I still show any remaining IGG levels, right?

glad you’re still around. Any lingering effects? How goes the no smoking??

No lingering effects. I still have a minor cough but that's because my lungs are healing. I am still off the cigarettes and I am using nicotine patches and it works for me. Thanks for asking.

Preprint out of Europe looking at viral load and shedding.

Twitter thread from lead author highlighting the findings.

Easy summary:
quote:

People are most infectious in the first 5 days of infection. Though ppl continue to shed virus after that, doesn't mean they're infectious & nobody so far has proven infectious beyond day 9. Older and sicker people shed more viral particles.

If that data is remotely reliable......
