The 55K dead number is highly inflated with deaths from other diseases. Pro Coronas were so desperate to amp the numbers they've rolled every death including the flu into a corona death.

Nope. Even if you want to assume that’s the case, if you look at the overall pot something doesn’t add up to your math. They didn’t inflate COVID-19 deaths by taking away from flu, because the overall rate of deaths from influenza like illnesses surged to around 5x more over the baseline rate compared to the worst flu season in 40+ years.

If you look at the downloadable numbers behind that chart and the corresponding "Influenza Like Illness" (ILI) percent fatality chart (which gives an expected percentage of deaths due to ILI), there are a total of 27848 excess deaths (more than expected based on previous year ILI observations) for the entirety of 2020 (through week 16).

I don't know if Covid deaths are being overcounted (I'm suspicious at this point) or from which other categories if they are, but the ~28,000 excess ILI deaths represented by that chart doesn't seem to dispel the notion of possible overcounting.

Only 261 new cases reported in Louisiana today. Yesterday and today are the first days under 400 since March 29. Remember that, at one point, we had a ten-day stretch where we reported over 1000 per day on eight of those ten days, and that ten-day period ended on 4/9, which was the last day that we had over 1000 new cases.

Things are looking up for a favorable announcement tomorrow by Governor Edwards on the relaxing of restrictions.

Has it been mentioned in this thread yet the increase in strokes they are seeing in young patients (under 50) with coronavirus who otherwise are having mild symptoms?

I have seen the reports a few days ago, with scary implications. Worst one was a clinician watching DIC causing the person to have additional strokes on the monitor in real time while he was clearing the first one.

From what I could tell, it was definitely present but not at a high enough rate to be passed on here.

Unless I sat down and analyzed everything, involving all forms of death....who am I kidding the people who think the death toll is made up counting games would still think so.

I honestly don’t know if they are “over counting.” I do know the reactions to counting presumed positives are ignorant given that’s SOP for standard flu. But overall is a big statement to make definitively or not.

But the guy I was responding to gave low hanging fruit by claiming not only were they “overcounting,” they simply shunted flu deaths and called it all COVID. And that is demonstrably false.

Neither do I, but I'm not so sure that it's ignorant to think that it might be happening. I think the CDC should continue to separately break out the hard testing numbers, both for cases and fatalities. This virus has become a politically charged debate and when politics get involved, numbers become less trustworthy no matter what the source. Better to use the least flexible/squishy data source available IMO. We're doing a lot more testing than we do for seasonal flu, which would help make the Covid-19 numbers much more meaningful. We should have the capacity to test the vast majority of suspected Covid-related fatalities with no problem at all. And unlike influenza, since a nationwide lockdown is dependent on the trends in this data, as little interpretation as possible should be left to the whims of politicians and their friends.

Plus, I haven't studied the details but I've read that hospital reimbursement is potentially higher when the diagnosis of Covid-19 is included. It's a known fact that if the government subsidizes something, you get more of it.

Further supports the assumption that hospitals are deeming folks that would have died of heart disease or diabetes (there are supposed to be 2,000 of these everyday in the US) as Covid deaths if they test positive. Hell with presumptive positives you can just call it Covid and get that sweet, sweet government cheese.

ETA: JBE is still pimping data that includes the 17 year old that dropped dead suddenly. 1) The father said it was heart related. 2) You don't just drop dead with Covid. The excess 28k ILI deaths is probably a more legit number than the 55k pumped out.

I read that as well....that is terrifying.

But like you said...it appears to be present in a very small amount of people positive for COVID-19.

That’s been claimed on here, but I haven’t seen any definitive info. Would def give some ammo for hospitals to claim this.

But people are just dropping dead from COVID-19. At the time, I dismissed that report myself. I was wrong. Now, we're learning more about how the virus creates blood clots, and we're seeing young people die suddenly of strokes and heart attacks as a result of those clots.

He didn't drop dead suddenly.

He had sickle cell.

Died from complications of sickle cell. Tested positive for covid as well.

I heard that rumored at the time but was unable to find any confirmation. Do you have a link, or first-hand knowledge?

But my understanding is that COVID-19, like the flu, makes sickle-cell much worse, so dying of sickle-cell and dying of COVID-19 aren't mutually exclusive.

If anything were "faked" for funding, it would much more likely be overall positive cases the hospital deals with not the death counts.

It's what happens when things get so politicized (here without there even being much reason for it).

There is certainly going to be gray area and inconsistencies with all the counts which means it's ripe for people with an agenda to cherry pick here and there to try to support their argument.

However, for Covid death counts, those inconsistencies cut both ways.

For every "gotcha" about a person dying from a brain tumor and testing positive there is a "gotcha" in the other direction about a person told to stay and home dying there from Covid complications that's not being counted.

The wife of a guy I work with is in ICU right now after suffering a massive post-COVID stroke. She’s around 40.

What are they attributing the stoke issue to in relation to COVID? I haven’t seen any of the literature or articles on that.

We had a nursing home resident who was positive -- on Thursday of last week, she was in her room, walking, talking, eating, on the meds but seemingly no distress per her vitals, verbal report. Next am she went into respiratory distress, coded and died.

I know that when testing our resident's they've typically been ordering covid swab, labs and a d-dimer lab (clot indicator) as well.

36,000 Missing Deaths: Tracking the True Toll of the Coronavirus Crisis

Semi-related, we are going to see a huge uptick in deaths due to folks putting off doctors visits/treatments for months.

I don’t think the death toll in the US is anywhere close to being underreported.

In the alternate universe where we did nothing whatsoever to slow the spread of the virus, yeah, I think we did.

That was the only context of that number, ever.
