Stating farmers would lose $5.1 B if foods switched over from high fructose corn syrup to pure cane sugar.

wouldn't this be offset by an additional $5.1B in sugar cane revenue or does all of that come from foreign sugar producers?

Places that farm corn don't grow sugar and vice versa. But cheap us corn has wrecked the world corn economy and need to be adjusted. We grow way too much corn.

Sugar beets can be grown where corn is grown.

I'm probably simplifying this too much but if we are removing high fructose corn syrup, some of those farmers should become ranchers and use that land to raise beef. we have a severe shortage of beef cattle in this country

Sweet, cheaper corn and corn products

Louisiana, Florida and Hawaii - USA is already the fourth largest producer of Cane Sugar in the world.. Way behind Brazil, China and some other country that produce a lot more. But the USA produces 30 Million cubic tons of pure cane sugar annually. If the global warming freaks are correct, we will be able to produce sugar cane everywhere

Too many cow farts might make the planet heat up but I’ll gladly exchange that for some cheaper beef prices.

The Corn Refiners Association said the complete elimination of high fructose corn syrup from the U.S. food and beverage supply would cut corn prices by up to 34 cents a bushel, resulting in a loss of $5.1 billion in farm revenue
I don't care. HFCS and ethenol fuel mandates are both screwed up hand outs to the corn belt. We grow too much corn and articficially keep prices high by cutting our gasoline with it and using it as a sweetner.
And I don't see a problem with cheeper animal feed.

It's only a loss if they plant more than they can sell. AND that means they won't have to continue the buying of so much fertilizer that is a necessity for growing corn. So they will be offsetting that expense.
There are other crops. Even soybeans and other dry beans have a growing world market.

No matter what changes there is always someone whining about it hurting them. Sick of hearing it.

Several parishes in the Baton Rouge metro are HUGE sugar producers. Pointe Coupee, St. James, West Baton Rouge, etc. Agricultural land prices are probably going up in places like that.

People are gonna whine either way. HFCS is not the same as cane sugar from chemistry standpoint. It has to be processed differently by the body. Whether that contributes to health issues or not on a macro level, who knows. We have seemingly gotten more fat as a nation since the mass use of HFCS and I see no issue with at least trying something else.

Nor rice. However, if we eliminate all farm subsidies, including the ethanol BS there may be a massive correction in land prices.
Maybe an acre in Iowa will drop below $10k.
I'm fine with that too.

Pretty sure you would be able to sell a lot of that as actual food.
Now, let's get rid of ethanol.

Hopefully the tax assessors will reassess the farm land values and have the farmers pay their fair share.

Yeah. If only we would apply that logic to alcohol we wouldn't have has many innocent people getting killed in drunk driving incidents and people wouldn't lose their mental health and productivity because they're addicts. . If we would apply it to fentanyl, we wouldn't have as many overdoses. If we would apply it to education, maybe more than 53% of our country would be net positives on the income tax scale. If we applied it to fast food, we wouldn't be the fattest country on earth.
But no. We chose to go after the Marlboro man.

If you say this because of the taste difference between US and Mexican Coke then you are mistaken. The difference in sweeteners makes zero taste difference between those two.
