A not so proud but interesting fact--My great great great great great grandfather on my mother's side was General James Wilkerson. My grandpa was a history professor at LSU for 30 years and told me all about this bastard growing up.

quote:

James Wilkinson was an American soldier and statesman, who was associated with several scandals and controversies. He served in the Continental Army during the American Revolutionary War, but was twice compelled to resign. He was twice the Commanding General of the United States Army, appointed first Governor of the Louisiana Territory in 1805 and commanded two unsuccessful campaigns in the St. Lawrence theater during the War of 1812. After his death, he was discovered to have been a paid agent of the Spanish Crown.

Cool picture: First chick on the left is my great grandmother on my Dad's side, Doris. She was a member of the 1941 Saint Joseph's Academy badminton team that won the city title I never knew my Mimi was a st joe hoe until after college.

My father, who was born and raised on Grand isle, vividly remembers Carlos Marcello and how he would sit on his knee and if he could name all his brothers and sisters (he has 13)... he would give him a quarter.

** not really historical but its always cool to hear him tell the story**

When my grandfather was a little boy he was given a bullet by his mother. He always carried it in his breast pocket, even as a soldier in WWII.

While he was attending a church service after a battle the chaplain went berserk and threw a bible at him.

That bible would have gone through his heart if it wasn't for the bullet.

The seal in my avatar is from my grandmother's side. William Wallace's mother was from this clan. To my knowledge only famous historical person I am related to. Her side is also the only side of the family we have researched, well, researched and truly gotten anywhere. Which is why I have it on there.

he's (my father) is in political office now and I always wondered if there were still connections. Also, 3 of his brothers held political offices either in Grand Isle or higher ranking. One, my parran, was the DOTD secretary during katrina. Coincidence?
