I like new tech but I'm not sure about the CVT. Wydi or stay old school.

Are they getting better at reliability?
I've only heard how terrible they are and need rebuilds, but they could have solved those problems.

They are expensive to replace for sure. We had one go out at 80k in an Altima that we used to own.

I wouldn't own a Nissan with a cvt transmission. Toyotas seems to be more reliable, but still wouldn't want one.

Been driving a cvt Nissan for the last 10 years. No issues with the transmission.

I have a Honda Pilot, 2013. I don't like the CVT and if it's what Honda has when we buy again, I likely will keep looking. No issues with the transmission or anything, just don't like the feel of skipping/jumping. After all this time I got used to it but I still would look for other options for the next car.

We have a rogue with a CVT. I didn't pick it out, I would have never picked it out, it is a ticking time bomb.

Noooooooo. Definitely not - seeing my brother change his out at 90k miles (Altima) sealed it.

Have a 2009 Murano with 145k and not one issue with CVT. Have a 2015 Pathfinder with 105k and not one issue with CVT. We are looking at a 2020 model in both based on our experiences.

Nooo. At least not the CVT tech used in cars built 10 years ago. I think the idea was greater efficiency, but I imagine there are far better technologies absolutely these days to do that.
I had transmission issues at 60k miles and fear I might have issues here again soon (110k).
It's also noisy and sounds kind of like a hive of bees.

1st Google link says 1989, that's pretty recent considering the problems don't come until year 5, 10, etc

I can vouch for that. 2016 Nissan Altima would speed up on its own over 60 mph. Was under warranty and they opted to rebuild the transmission.

nope, avoid it at all costs
mechanics i know say they are getting rich off them since 98% need rebuilding or replacing every 75k miles because they are a shitty design and have a short lifespan vs engines

When I bought a new sedan back in 2009 I purposefully avoided anything with a CVT, and that was a good decision. That car turned out to be extremely reliable and inexpensive to own. Still not sold on CVTs.
